The Fifth Element was released in 1997

It doesn't seem possible that it came out 26 years ago. It still holds up pretty well.

Chris Tucker should have won an Oscar, Golden Globe, etc., for his role...

Something different.

I was offended that they made Bilbo play that weird monk (Cornelius).

…even if that role did come first…

Great movie. One of my favorites. Multi pass!

My long running crush on Milla Jovovich started around there. She has also recorded an album or two of music that is pretty good. Not great, but it's better than I anticipated coming from a person known simply for being beautiful. She can also act reasonably well. Her daughter is now following in her footsteps.

I should not have been drinking coffee while watching some morning Beavis and Butthead.

They're sort of the original "reaction" video watchers.

Terrible movie. One of a handful I’ve walked out of early. I’d rather gargle draino than watch the Tucker scenes again (although it’s all awful).

Mystery Science Theater 3000 would like a word.

Although I was a fan of that show, too, they really didn't watch videos. But, still, great show.

It's not the sort of movie you watch for the plot, but rather for the spectacle.

It's definitely on a different level than my own list of favorite movies.

Pretty sure I have never seen this film. Shock.

Is this the one with the woman's head in the box or the one where in the final scene Bruce Willis learns he's dead?

Probably one of the more clever movies concerning our dystopian future mixing religion and aliens with a struggling militaristic and political system with graphics that show an excellent Blade Runner style but with some humor.
Also a shout out to Brion Howard James who was lucky enough to be in both 5th Element and Blade Runner before his passing.

It has always strongly reminded me of a cartoon that appeared regularly in Heavy Metal magazine back in the 70s and 80s about a cab driver in the future, but I've been told the two aren't directly related.

Agreed. Unfortunately, I imagine most people wouldn't recognize his name but if shown a picture of him would say "Oh yeah, that guy!".
