Internet in the middle of the Pacific!

Wow! This blows my mind. We are on a plane heading for a sailing vacation in Tahiti, hundreds of miles from anything. I just paid a mere five bucks for an hour of internet to message our host. Surprisingly, the connection is extremely fast. I had no idea that this level of service was available. Admittedly, they won’t let you stream videos etc but this works extremely well for web surfing, messaging, photo downloading, etc).

I am absolutely amazed to discover myself on this rock ball rotating around a spherical fire. It's a very odd situation. And the more I look at things I cannot get rid of the feeling that existence is quite weird. -- Alan Watts

I'd be willing to bet (not very much) that they are... In areas licensed by their respective countries to use it, Starlink is getting some amazing market penetration. The numbers of units are still low, but the distribution is already nearly world-wide (again, some countries have not licensed Starlink to operate there yet...).

I flew United to Asia and one time the route went over the polar circle, around 80 degree north. Around Alaska. There was no Internet there, just ice below.

Internet resumed once we started heading South over Russia. Oh that was before the war started.
