It's driving me nuts. Very difficult to use while the screen gets dim and then brighter over and over. In system preferences I have "automatically adjust brightness" turned off but if I leave the panel open I can watch the slider go up and down without me even touching the laptop. Is there a fix for this?

Sounds like a light sensor malfunction. Where the light sensor on these models? In the speaker grille? maybe it's got schmutz on it.

I'm voting for "possessed". Perhaps you should hang some garlic around the screen.
