Former first lady Rosalynn Carter, 95, has been diagnosed with dementia, her family revealed on Tuesday. The announcement comes more than three months after Rosalynn's 98-year-old husband, former President Jimmy Carter, entered hospice care.

Carter has been a longtime mental health advocate, starting from her time when her husband was governor of Georgia.

Jimmy Carter is currently under the care of Hospice.

That is so sad to hear, and this coming from a rock-ribbed Republican. She always seemed to be a graceful gentle woman thrust into a world where people like her are too often, too easily bruised.

Sometimes longevity is not a blessing!

Very sad. My in-laws have dementia. FIL has been getting worse for a few years now. MIL is just starting to show some of the symptoms. They just turned 80. At least at 95, Mrs. Carter has led a long life. If she's just in the beginning stages, it could be a while before she starts to forget everything

95 and 98.

What a wonderful couple who has made our country, and the world, a better place.

Hope it's quick after watching my mom bed-ridden, completely unresponsive, with physical complications for the better part of a decade simply due to the progress of her dementia.
