Fidelity's been nagging me for years about having too large of an investment in AAPL. Think I'll hold, thank you very much.

So very much wish I would have told my guy at Edward Jones @#$%& you when he talked me out of investing a lot more when it was at ninety-something pre-most-recent split. @#$%& that guy.

Yeah, I did sell some several years ago when it had been down for a while and had creeped back up. It then tripled in price over the following year.

wish I had bought more when it was dropping several months ago. But I'm happy that I held onto it. It's gone up about 50% in the couple years I've had it.

I do have (what is now) a tidy little chunk, but I was prepared to invest twice to five times what I did and let that @#$%&-wit talk me out of it. My own fault, I know, but, hell.

Bought 100 shares when it was $17.25. Sold some since. But still have over 800 shares... Wanna sell some when it reaches Jan 2, 2022 level. or 180.

Rule #1 is DO NOT TALK ABOUT AAPL WHILE THE MARKET IS OPEN!

Great job! You made the stock tank!

Yeah. I get it; the universe doesn't want me to have money. Point made.

The pisser of it all is that, every time APPL is doing well (or great), the emotions are a mixed bag. On the one hand, I'm happy for the company and that the stock I have is doing well, but I will never look at it without thinking, "that could be double, or that could have another zero at the end of it".

Bought a bunch at $120 last year. Bought some more at $180, at which point the stock dipped almost all the way back to $120. I sat tight, though, and am almost back to where I started last year. Needless to say, I am very pleased.

It is what it is.

About half of my portfolio is in AAPL. To his credit, my broker has never given me any grief about it. I may test him a bit at the end of the year; I will have a considerable six-figure amount to invest when we pull my wife's funds out of the state retirement system. I'm debating with myself whether to put more into AAPL or go for higher dividend stocks.

Sell on the way up, buy on the way down. Most people do the opposite.

"In science it often happens that scientists say, 'You know that's a really good argument; my position is mistaken,' and then they would actually change their minds and you never hear that old view from them again. They really do it. It doesn't happen as often as it should, because scientists are human and change is sometimes painful. But it happens every day. I cannot recall the last time something like that happened in politics or religion." (1987) -- Carl Sagan

Fidelity's advice makes them money; holding—long term—makes you money.

Yeah, and that whole "move your funds in 'safe' stocks and bonds as you near retirement" is BS in my opinion. The stock market has a 100+ year history of gains, despite recessions. That's going to stop once you retire?

The market as a whole, yes.

Individual companies come & go.

That's why an index fund invested in a broad market will be "safe" over time.

But if you are counting on individual companies being around & profitable for 100+ years, well...

...remember Enron?

(and plenty of others, but that one just popped into my head first)

And what about things like the dot com bubble, or the 2008 crisis (and perhaps covid)? Those devastated portfolios of soon to be retirees.

Man, I'm glad I've held onto every share (except when I sold and rebought at twice the price in 2004).

Hence the "safe" in quotes.

The market recovered after all of those.

You can always put it all under your mattress. Good luck with inflation!
