What music are you enjoying today?
Posted by: davemchine

Today I discovered "Day is Done" by John Prine. I am NOT a country music fan but I have to admit I like this. I'm browsing his collection of music and grabbing some singles.

So what music are you enjoying today?

Ukulele music I couldn't find anywhere else.

I'm not a country music fan either, but it doesn't matter to me when John Prine is doing a song.

Right, same here, but we've (the public) have been bamboozled over the years of how to define country music. John Prine is real country music.

Just today I discovered a pianist that I probably should have known all along. He was playing a version of Summertime with Roy Brown: Gene Harris. Thanks to live, non-commercial radio for that one.

Dave,

The same type of music I've enjoyed for decades: varieties of metal.

Bands fairly recently added to the rotation in no particular order:

Sabaton

All of Sabaton work is based around war both ancient and modern. They recently did a cover of 1916 by Motorhead that is just stunning.

An example of their typical song:

Powerwolf

Powerwolf is all about the supernatural, especially vampires and werewolves. Great stuff.

Alestorm

Pirate metal!

Dragonforce

Fantasy and then some!

Enjoy!

Risking getting this sent to the other side…

“The band performed at a show organized by Putin loyalist motorcycle club Night Wolves in Russian occupied Crimea in 2015, and bassist Sundström stated in an interview with Sweden Rock Magazine in 2016 that Crimea had previously been occupied by Ukraine.”

Funny you should ask. Right now I'm in Maupiti, which is an off the beaten track island in French Polynesia. Bicycling past the idyllic houses along the road on a rusty beach cruiser I've been listening to soothing polynesian music that makes me feel like I'm in paradise. Quite a bit of it, though not all, is ukulele music which I know you like.

"In science it often happens that scientists say, 'You know that's a really good argument; my position is mistaken,' and then they would actually change their minds and you never hear that old view from them again. They really do it. It doesn't happen as often as it should, because scientists are human and change is sometimes painful. But it happens every day. I cannot recall the last time something like that happened in politics or religion." (1987) -- Carl Sagan

I didn't like it at first but the melancholy has grown on me.

My genre of choice is Classic Rock, mostly 70's.I like both the harder, like Black Sabbath, ACDC, etc, along with 'softer' like Three Dog Night, Steve Miller, you name it.

I listen to a lot of different music, rock, classic rock, classical, trance/electronica being my most played genres. Just discovered Owl City. Clever lyrics!

On this Saturday morning, as I prep a few things to list on the FS&FI Forum and clean up my office a bit, I'm listening to a mix of works from albums by Joe Burton and the Joe Burton Quartet. Some good 50s/60s era jazz.

Had an excellent session last night with some classical vocalists who want to create a mashup of genres, instruments, and techniques to create a different thing. It's sounding interesting.
