Handy to have as the smoke rolls in

https://www.airnow.gov

Put in your zip and get the local pollution readings. Maps, too.

This and Apple Weather on iOS have been up constantly in our household the past few days...

I'm curious about some of the way the hazard shows up on Apple Weather...

Notice the all the circles like a pointillist painting?

Are they taking readings from different sensors and then just extrapolating out a given radius and gradient of severity from each sensor location? Best examples are right below IA and just west of VA... can anyone explain why these poor AQ areas are all circles and don't look like swirly clouds?

You can't beat purpleair.com

These are actual devices connected to a nationwide network

here's a pic I took two years ago - the network size has doubled since then. There are two devices in my neighborhood now.

It's realtime and constantly changing. Most air reports are a once-a-day thing.

DP, that’s some ugly air. Could you cut a chunk of it, put it in a box and send it to the Canadian embassy along with a complaint letter?

Had to wear an N95 mask outside today. My asthma was really kicking in.

I ended up wearing a mask Tuesday, Grand Rapids MI had the highest particle levels in the nation that afternoon, that honor shifted to Sault Ste Marie, MI later that night.

Metro Detroit area!

I remember when the California fire smoke came this way to Michigan - it seemed more a little more Orange in the daytime - how come Canada fire is ALWAYS Grey

Metro Detroit looks like rain clouds today (sprinkling now) but looked like this yesterday with the smoke from the Canada fires.

This is weird overall - how come they don't show or publicize good pictures of the Canada Fires.
