iWork or MS Office for Word Perfect User?

We are updating my mom's 400 MHz Pismo to 640 MB Memory & 10.3.9 (I have a copy I can give her and I'm not convinced I want to put her to 10.4 yet)...

See this post...

<[forums.macresource.com];

She's pretty stubborn and even though we have Office 2001 she insists on using a Old School Word Perfect (maybe it's 2.0 but I can't remember). If I move her from os 9.1 to 10.3.9, I'm going to attempt to keep her 100% of the time in osX. I will move her to "MAIL" from entourage. However, for her main word processing application, should I attempt to move her to Office 2004 (is that the latest version) or should I just move her to iWORK? Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Bill

I think one of the more important questions to ask before making the decision is;
"Does she send and recieve documents to and from other people"?

If she does, I think she'll be better served by Office (much as I hate to admit it...).

If not, then iWork may be a good solution.

Hope this helps.

What about AppleWorks. It's fairly easy to use and the menus are logical.

Well, the company mainly uses MS Office on XP / 98 boxes... So, it probably isn't a bad idea to get office. Are there any plugins for office that will make it act like Word Perfect? Also, who has the best price for Office Upgrade?

Thanks!

Considering what you just said, I'd have to go with Office as well, as much as I'd like to say otherwise -- especially if she's moving data back and forth.

As far as "look & feel" of WordPerfect, I know Word has a "Microsoft Word for 5.1" toolbar option, but I've not seen anything WordPerfect specific. But if she uses the Office 98 stuff at work, going to the Mac word should be easy.

Deals? I think pricing is standardize, but here's what I found on Amazon (note there's no upgrade here):

MS Office Standard - [www.amazon.com]

Student/Teacher - [www.amazon.com]
