DVD cataloging program

Ok, I know most of you don't use DVDs anymore. But we still do, and have amassed a very large collection. We tend to buy them at garage sales and thrift shops. Last haul was at a garage sale where I got a case with about 50 DVDs and BluRays for $10.

Our biggest problem is that we occasionally end up buying something we already have. Many, many years ago I had a program on my Macbook where I could hold up the DVD barcode to the camera and it would add the movie to a database. I need something similar for my iPhone. Basic requirements are that I can either scan the barcode or manually enter the title. And I'd need to be able to determine whether we have the DVD or the BluRay (or even some UHD BluRay) version. Easily scrollable or searchable is also a must. Looking for recommendations from the forum.

I would do a Numbers app spreadsheet. Columns for title, barcode number, format, etc.
At least on iOS 16, there’s the option to scan text when you tap on a writing field. I would use that to populate the SS and/or the search field.
Big fan of the Form feature on iOS. I would love if that came over to MacOS.

Problem with that is it doesn't have the scan-barcode feature. That alone will save many, many hours of typing in stuff. The program I used on my Macbook years ago let me scan in several hundred DVDs in less than an hour. Typing by hand probably would have taken 10+ hours.

It does, a12 chip required, I think it’s iPhone XS.

Sorry sorry, no barcode scan, but barcode number scan, then title scan on another column.
Anyway, it’s just an idea. I try to use the included apps as much as possible, and I love numbers.
Good luck!

Wow, Delicious Library was the program I used many years ago! I didn't remember the name until now. Looks like it mainly runs on Mac OS and has an iOS part to scan. But I need something that runs on my iPhone because that's what I'll have with me when I'm out and about.

Ditto NeoFinder. I guess I should have been clearer... I need it to run on iOS, not MacOS.

I used Readerware in the past. You can catalog books, movies, and records/CDs with it (three separate programs) and keep the database on your system. It allows you to scan the barcode or ISBN, looking it up online to get the metadata. It does quite a bit.

That reminds me: I need to update the software and finish cataloging!
