Did you ever buy something you saw on TV ads?

I never ordered any of these items I see on TV, I have some doubts about the quality of these items and about their shipping policies and fees

Let's take a random example I just saw on TV

1 for $39.99 + $9.99 S&H
2 for $39.99 + $9.99 S&H and *Just pay a separate $9.99 fee

Return Policy
60-Day Money Back Guarantee (Less Shipping, Processing, Handling, and Fees). Return via USPS.

So they do not tell you how much is the Processing, Handling, and Fees

I am curios how much refund you actually get, if you buy one for $50 (39.99 + 9.99), how much of that 39.99 you get back and how much you spend to send it back.

I have a suspicion that they charge so many fees that make the return impractical.

And there is no way to read reviews about any of these products.

So if you bought something, was it any good? did you try to return it? or do you have family members that buy things they see on TV?

The Titan Peeler

It actually is fantastic. We purchased one and they sent two in 2009. So we ordered two more and they sent four more. Several family members got that for a Christmas stocking stuffer.

Ours is still in service and looks brand new 14 years later. Of the three peelers in our kitchen, the Titan is always my first choice. The others are there just for when someone offers to help peel potatoes.

the titan peeler does look good indeed. If the web site were up, I would probably buy one, based on your direct recommendation, LOL

Hmm, it is on Amazon now. 1 for $16 or 2 for $47? is it the same thing though, or someone stole the brand?

It shot 4 half frames on 35mm film then processed with a lenticular plastic melded to the front. Super cool, but the pictures were pricy. About $1 a shot.

I bought it in the early days of shop at home on cable.

We own iPhones because my wife watched the original Steve Jobs' keynote announcement.

Does that count?!

If you live in a part of the country where there are Menards stores, they have a lot of that “as seen on TV” stuff in one section (I think Target used to have a similar section/end cap, not sure if they still do).

In any case, I saw that socket fan on the shelf at Menards when I was shopping there tonight. Just checked their website and it’s $39.95 there.

I've purchased several things I saw on TV. Bought two things "As Seen On TV". Table Mate TV Tray Table and the Original Slap Chop. The Table Mate was very useful for many years, then I gave it away because I was moving. The Slap Chop was crap, used it twice, and donated it.

Local flea market had an “ as seen on tv” section where I bought a few things. Nothing really stands out in my memory though.

I got a chill chest at Wally’s seen on section.
Light, unobtrusive, and an excellent rib or dough rest area. I like it a lot.

The McDonalds Arch Deluxe. Pitched as an upscale burger.

I succumbed to the ad blast, bought an Arch Deluxe one night when I wanted to feel special. I was a college student at the time, so paying something priced at an amount that would have gotten at least two other fancy burgers (whopper, Big Mac) a costly, one time experiment. In fact it soured me on McDonalds overall...

It shows as $23.90 and so the $47 for two makes sense.

I don't think I've bought any As Seen On TV stuff, but my memory conveniently fails at the moment.

I once bought my kids Rock'em Sock'em Robots, it was unifying in that we shared a disappointing experience together.

I can't think of a single thing I bought because I saw an ad that made me want it. On the rare occasion that an ad is actually clever and entertaining, it tends to be for something I don't want or need.

The Spectrum ads make me want to switch to Verizon. The only thing still holding me back is NY1, and although NY1 is not great, it still beats the awful local news programs from local affiliates.

My life goes smoothly and in regular intervals
