Is this new? Did you have something different before, like cable?

or just faster metronet plan? If so, was there a reason? did your old metronet plan stall/stutter a lot and you needed the speed?

can we ask how much?

congrats! I was able to get 1.2 Gbps up/down fiber (regional telco) and it has been fantastic ($78/month). I'll take the speed, but the biggest jump for me was the upload speeds. I regularly need to upload 10+ GB of files for various clients. I no longer have to wait more than a couple of minutes for that. With Xfinity internet before that, it was often literally faster to drive to a faster connection than plan my day around massive uploads that would take hours upon hours to complete. Highly recommend. The only bad thing is that you get used to the faster speeds and going other places just makes you miss the speed.

Enjoy!

Sweet! What are you upgrading from?

______

I am amused by the language used to advertise 1Gbps speeds.

"You can stream 4k videos and music at the same time on multiple devices."

Buzzwords.

It's not wrong, but you can do that on much less than 1Gbps. 4K video only refers to the resolution of a video. There is no specified bitrate or objective level of image quality that would determine or inform an amount of bandwidth required for a user to stream a 4K video.

But again, congrats on the upgrade!

Damn straight. we were stuck with comcrap for 8 months while moving, it is limited to 5 MB/s uploads unless you pay more. $10/mo for an additional 5 MB/s is what I was told. Even my old DSL at 15 MB/s seemed speedy. Now with ATT fiber, meh. Close to 400 up/down.

A full Backblaze backup would take months a 24/7 via 15 MB/s, now it takes a few hours.

I do a ton of uploads... last months usage...

Here comcrap increased upload speeds at no extra charge recently. Might have something to do with the town starting a municipal internet service about 5 years ago, and they added streaming service for TV channels about 2 years ago. Current internet rates from the town service are $49 a month for 30/30, $59 for 100/100, and $79 for 200/200 service. Only reason I haven't gone to that is my house is in the shadow of the one next door with aluminum siding. The service is fiber in the street with wifi access points hanging from the town owned street lamps.

Went from cable (300 Mbps). Monthly charge (with mandatory “tech assure” fee) will be just over $82. Spectrum just raised their rate, so cable would be $85 a month. So it was kind of a no brainer. They gave me an eero Pro 6E as the router, and we asked for an extended and he gave us another Pro 6E. They’re like $299 each, and as far as I can tell there’s no rental fee. So that was pretty sweet. Installation was $50, but after two months I’ll get a $50 Visa gift card to make up for it. And the first month is free.

Oh, and the two prior tests were run while the system was updating itself, hence the lower numbers.

not bad. even though I have the lowest plan at 300/300, and ATT offers 1000/1000+ -- I have never felt the need for anything faster. even with the usage numbers above, and all 4 phones, all 4 macs and a TV going at the same time, flawless. Never a stutter or slowdown.

Heck, we were totally fine with 75/15 in the old place.

So i often wonder what peeps might need with more speed.

Broadband is starting to come in movie soda sizes- they’re all much more than anyone really needs.

That said, symmetric upload is awesome and yes I’d take gigabit fiber for what I’m paying spectrum.
