Anything specific that looks good? Did they maybe make the System Settings less awful? Stop using those stupid tiles in places where lists are the obvious choice? And so forth.

As time goes on, more and more new tech stuff and "new and improved" tech makes me say, "I'm not their target demographic."

I like that it's named after Sonoma.

Sigh. I cling to the faint hope that it will be better than Ventura. But I suspect all of you are correct.

Not really. Every new OS is something to avoid IMO.

My curiosity always gets me in the end. I might wait until version .2 or .3, but then I upgrade. Then I go through the pain of adjusting to whatever the new system throws at me. I vow to never upgrade again. Happens every time.

It seems a fairly modest update.

But... Yeah... A lot more like iOS.

Wait for the Ars Technica review when the new OS ships.

There'll be something interesting in there.

Been using the beta for a couple months. It's fine.

If you enjoy at least some parts of this connected internet experience, then you will eventually need to upgrade or you will end up marooned and fighting with various websites/services/platforms/technologies that require a newer OS and the various app updates (first party and third party) that come with that.

I'd love to stay on Snow Leopard / Mojave / Catalina / whatever, but I'd gradually lose the ability to view internet-based content, communicate with other people, etc.

I think it's the price we pay to be part of the mass experience of modern technology. Ain't saying it's even mostly good, but parts of it are relatively indispensable if you want to enjoy at least a few of the modern conveniences we have at our fingertips (online banking, entertainment, communication, etc). Of course, there are those that eschew many of these conveniences, but you then either deal with the hassles of tech workarounds, or you try and find providers that still offer "analog" methods of operation (think: printed bank statements, DVDs from the library, snail mail, etc).

As a result, I've somewhat begrudgingly stepped on the annual update plan. Wait until mid-fall/early winter and then take the plunge. There are always bugs, but I then don't run up against too many instances of being left behind.

Well said, clay. Embracing new software may seem like a loss, but it’s also stepping into the future.

As long a I have at least one device that can interact with the interwebs using a current browser, I don't have any need to muck up the other Mac OS devices with iOSified messes.
