Corporate stupidity - Johnson & Johnson changes it logo

After 136 yers, the Johnson & Johnson cursive logo will be gone, replaced by a printed version.

J&J said the “refreshed, bright, and contemporary [red] speaks to the ability to urgently respond to health challenges, evolve with the times and set the pace,” while the updated ampersand “captures a caring, human nature. It now presents itself as a more globally recognizable symbol and represents the openness of the brand, as well as the connections that bring the company’s purpose to life.”

I think it is because the nimrods can't read or write cursive.

Yep, they don’t teach cursive any longer.
I wish they at least taught how to read it.

I truly don't understand the logic behind corporate branding.

I am still hoping to run into the guy who changed buy.com to Rakuten?

It's advertising and advertising's goal is to deliver a succinct message. Anything that gets in the way of that is ineffective and gets jettisoned.

I felt a great disturbance in the Force, as if millions of voices graphic designers suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced.

I've seen some truly good ad campaigns get lost in the weeds of graphic design that morphed to artistic expression that then dissolved into ether.

Reminds me of GAP's $100,000,000.00 redesign that lasted 7 days before they reverted back to the old logo. LOL.

If that's what it takes to give them "the ability to urgently respond to health challenges, evolve with the times and set the pace,” while the updated ampersand “captures a caring, human nature" it makes me wonder what they were doing for the first 136 years.

I think it is because the nimrods can't read or write cursive.

That was my immediate thought, and I think that's the only reason.

The new logo doesn't do any of what their marketers claim.

Nobody 'reads' a logo.

The best are those that are instantly recognizable which the old logo is.

I suspect many will 'read' the new logo and wonder, "Who are Johnson & Johnson, and where's my favorite baby powder?

Agree that many youngsters cannot read cursive.

But if you want succinct, why not "J&J" or "J+J" or "JJ"

Sounds like somebody went to Art school! I was never able to spew such BS until after I had made it through undergrad.

The new logo is trash.
