It's not really ebay's fault. (non-paying bidders)

I was going to begin this with "Whatever happened to common courtesy?", but then I remembered 2016 to present and that seemed to answer that question.

Anyway, I don't sell on ebay much at all, but I figured I'd try to get rid of a few things that my wife was just going to toss out in the trash. I figured they must be worth something, so I listed them with no minimum and a .99 starting bid, with buyer paying actual shipping. Okay, so a week goes by with one bid so I get the package ready to ship off to the $.99 wining bidder. Crickets. Not even a "Whoops, I bid by accident.", "Whoops, I changed my mind." or even a "Go to hell, I didn't want it anyway". Nothing.

The only thing ebay has to say is "Buyer hasn't paid yet. We have reminded the buyer to pay. You may wait for the payment or send an invoice again. You can cancel the order for non-payment beginning Sep 18."

While I don't want them drawn and quartered, will I at least be able to ding them with a negative for non-payment? Petty? Perhaps, but it still aggravates me. (see first sentence.)

Not really. Opening the non-payment case will go on their record, and I believe eBay only allows so many of those (3? but it's been a while since I checked) before they'll deactivate or restrict the buyer's account.

Other than that, there's no negative feedback anymore for buyers and it's pointless to post a positive with a negative comment.

You can block them, though, so you never have to deal with them on a future auction. [www.ebay.com] (I even block bidders that retract their bids, unless it was an obvious typo/mis-bid).

Not just pointless but against eBay rules so you would get a black mark against you or even suspension from eBay.

Okay, thanks. Yeah, it's just weird that my two latest 'sales' were from 100% feedback buyers. Clearly wasn't worth the trouble of listing.

Wife hasn't had a non-paying buyer in years but she lists everything with Buy It Now, she's had a few please cancel my purchase bought by mistake buyers. She still has her store but scaled back to a $6/month store subscription. Sells are nothing like they used to be and listing has gotten more difficult as they have designed the listing page more for mobile devices. Her feedback is approaching 6000 but hardly anyone leaves feedback anymore.

I haven't had a non-paying bidder in years. But every sector is different. My theory is that small collector niches don't attract as many problems.

I only do buy-it-now postings with best offer option to give me some ability to screen my buyers.
