Are you Sirius?

Last week I bought a 2021 Tacoma, to facilitate meandering about the landscape. So today for the first time I tried the Sirius option and was surprised to find out it seems fully functional. At least it plays the jazz station which is pretty much all I’m interested in. Has a map program built in as well. Will they eventually come after me for a subscription? I opted out with my last car. Being a used vehicle it’s hard to imagine they know who I am.

Enjoy it while you can. It will be interesting how long it will take the last owner to figure out they forgot to cancel the service.

Most cars purchased from a dealer, new or used, come with a 3-month trial of SiriusXM. There should be a reference to it in your purchase paperwork somewhere.

~this. also be sure that the constant connection does not drain the battery.

How would that happen? Assuming the radio powers down when the car is turned off, the connection is broken the same that it would be with a terrestrial radio station.

No, it can be seeking a signal without the key in position. Just like a dome light or a brake light works always.

I know that BMW and Volvo cars had this issue

It looks like the battery draining issue was only for certain Volvos about 10 years ago. It is absolutely not a worry for 99% of us.

I had Sirius in a car as a trial for the first time 4 years ago. I thought I wouldn't keep it when the trial ran out. But then I did, as long as I can keep it at $5 bucks a month.

Verizon phone service has just gotten worse and worser around here. The change to 5G causes a much shorter reach for towers, plus increased numbers of devices just overwhelms service. That cause Apple Music to be a bit more unreliable in the car.

MY biggest two gripes with Sirius are that some channels have a very short playlist. Yacht Rock and The Bridge are probably the worst of those that I listen to in regards to repeats.

Bigger is that more and more channels are getting DJ's that don't just talk, they talk about all sorts of stuff I don't care about. That's what FM is for...

Seems like all the newer cars are transmitting info all the time. Telemetrics, whatever. Mine has a map program running, I believe even in the background. Are cell phones ever really off? Don’t cars use 3G? Must be some components drawing some tiny amount of power when the keys off but the battery is connected.
