$70 internet $35 1/4 Amz Prime $18? Netflix. So less than $200.

Never had cable, had Netflix since DVDs and I prefer computer games to TV.

Edit: I completely missed cell service though I don't consider that entertainment like a streaming service, $120 for 4 people pops me to the under $300 tier, though then you need to consider household size. Bigger households mean paying more for many things.

AT&T (phone & internet): $87
Google Fi: typically around $25

So, about $112 out-of-pocket monthly

I looked into cutting the landline, but going internet alone (without being bundled with somethng else) was nearly the same cost the last time I checked.

I'm dropping Spectrum cable next week and going to streaming, so my bill will drop by more than $100.

CURRENT
Spectrum cable - 165
internet -85
landline - 20
mobile - 30
HBO - 15

TOTAL 315

Next Month
Internet 85
landline 20
Hulu Live (ad free with Disney/ESPN+) 100
HBO 15
Bally Sports (6 months @ 20 so avgs to 10) 10

TOTAL 230

Plus with creative financing, we will likely qualify for Lifeline program discount of $40/month. So our monthly bill will be $190.

FiOS $40
T-Mo with Netflix $76.50
Apple $7
beezee $12.50
whonu $8

This list skews the total costs artificially for "media".
- An Amazon Prime subscription provides more than just "media".
- Cellular service provides much more than "media"
- A single "streaming" channel might be watched via WiFi (not cell service) on computer, cell phone or tablet, but all three have many uses besides "media".

Well, since we're all "mere mortals" here...

This survey doesn't yield useful data on expenditures exclusively for "media".

I have a 5-person family clan where we share costs of mobile service. That alone is ~$230.

Pretty easy to get above $300 by adding YouTube Premium (would be last to end), Disney+, YouTubeTV, Paramount+, AppleTV+ and Netflix. We are about to dump Netflix.

Not counting fiber internet, which is $55/month.

Not counting Amazon Prime - we watch very little on it in general.

I'll add it up again, but we historically paid $230/month for cellular and ~$250/month for the Charter TV triple bundle (cable, internet and phone) about 10 years ago. We cut the cord and have been under the cost of the triple bundle through 2022 for sure.

Internet $82/mo, phone $30/mo, $5 ea for wikimedia and archive.org, $8 for Cornell's Birds of the World= $130.
How are 6 people bringing it in under $100, unless they didn't read the OP?

$80 Frontier fibre
$40 Sling
$16 Netflix
$7 Paramount+
$15 Prime
$125 Verizon cellular

Both work from home, so 90% of phone usage is wifi. Prime as noted above is more than media and other than a few Scandinavian shows not on Netflix, don't really watch anything on Prime.

$72 for 350 mbps Spectrum internet
$35 for Spectrum Streaming app with cloud DVR
$5 for Hulu with ads and Disney no ads, Black Friday deal
$2 Paramount with ads, Black Friday deal
$28 for Spectrum Mobile two lines.

$142 total

I didn't include Prime because we would have it for free shipping alone even if it didn't have Prime streaming.

Will probably drop Spectrum streaming app as it just went up to $35. Drop Spectrum and tack on AppleTV+ and cheap Netflix maybe.

My subscriptions are over $300/mo and I spend $100-200 buying DVD’s or downloadable music. Much of it I don’t use at all but somebody in the family does. My spectrum internet is $160/mo and all I get is internet & a phone line. Seems high compared to what others have reported here.

Optical cable - 50 but not used solely for entertainment

Apple TV - 7

Apple Music - 11 probably gonna drop this soon, not using it much

PBS Passport - 5

Amazon - 15 but I save on shipping and get other benefits, so

$88 if you count everything but probably more like $60 in reality.

jealous of those of us under $100.
I suppose shouldn't really include Prime either as I haven't watched anything there since covid the 1st.

I should do some research and see if Prime is even worth it for what I buy there.

Fritz,

Cellular service isn't media. Never has been and never will be. It's telephone service. That you can access media services with cellular service is a different matter entirely. Cellular service should be removed from the list.

Amazon Prime offers a tremendous number of benefits. The media benefits are just a few of them. I wouldn't put the entire cost of Amazon Prime towards media. Maybe 1/4 of it. Walmart's media bonus is a free subscription to Paramount+ Essentials. The other benefits have nothing to do with media. Like with Amazon Prime, I'd take a small part of the cost of Walmart+ and consider it media expenses.

Verizon is offering some attractive deals right now: Gig FiOS for $65 a month, guaranteed for 4 years. I may look into taking that part of my "media" expenditure away from Spectrum. I can't quite bring myself to dump Spectrum TV because without NY1, there would be no local news at all fit to watch. NY1 is pretty superficial but the others are worse.
