Bizarre screen behavior

G4 17" 1.5 Powerbook 10.3.9

Screen is set to millions of colors. All of a sudden it starts to get a "shimmery" effect, as if it can't decide to be in millions or 256. The pixels look like they are confused and waver back and forth. Pretty, but not right or stable. Everything on the screen is affected, no matter what.

The computer is completely usable (system stable), just the screen is bonkers.

Ran Disk Warrior, checked V-ram with Techtool pro - clean

Apple support had me reset the power management. Then they had me do an archive and install. That seemed to help for only a short while. Problem is back.

Before I have to lose use of this book in repair, is this familiar to anyone? It seems as though it could point to a number of reasons. Any troubleshooting ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Last time I saw that problem it was due to a lose internal display cable. Is it under warranty? If not and you're handy, pop it open and have a look.
