I decided that I'm finally ready to try airpods, but since I know that my ears are hard to fit, it must be the 2nd gen with the silicon tips. But I'm also a cheapskate and never want to pay $200 for something that will likely get lost.

I checked discount pricing - not often below $200. SO I decided to check ebay for used ones.

That was decision #1 and that led very quickly to decision #2 - I need to study HARD on the subject of fake airpods.

Studying complete, I wandered onto ebay... where I found almost every listing was fake. 100s and 100s of (0) sellers. My god it was amazing. No wonder they are selling for under $100 for BRAND NEW*

But I FINALLY found a listing that passed all of my tests and when contacted, the seller answered questions properly. I looked at over 200 listings to find ONE that seems to be real and the seller seems to be good. I've searched for lots of difficult items on ebay, btu I've never seen anything like this.

Fake that they were selling counterfeit items or fake that they were seeking to take your money and not deliver what you ordered?

The latest AirPod Pro's have the USB C connection no?

there are always sellers that won't deliver, but I mean fake as in counterfeit. And I don't mean like the old MBP chargers where they didn't usually even try to make it look convincing, THESE are made to look convincing - even the packaging.

Apparently, Amazon had a 20% off coupon for some users earlier today (bringing the price down to $160), but it was short lived, but maybe they will be deals out there for Black Friday.

The tips on any AirPod Pros can be changed. I've put foam tips on Gen 1 and 2. Much better than the silicone ones.

it is hard, but I watched that one and a bunch of others and there are a few obvious signs. Some text should be bold that isn't - and the cardboard box inset is always more refined than the fake ones. Fake boxes have a plastic component - the real ones are all paper.

Got to agree with most above; for things like AirPods, I'd stick with the big outlets (but not Amazon*) (and remember that Xmas sales are coming) and take a look at a reputable reseller (like our sponsor, who has sold them in the past).

(* I say not Amazon b'c of the ease of mixing up what you are buying there; I've had far too many relatives tell me "but I bought it from Amazon" and it turns out they bought it from the second-hand seller or a "sold by XYZ and shipped by Amazon")

I don't think that I would buy any mainstream Apple product from eBay, especially iPhones or AirPods of any type. There are way too many counterfeit or stolen items out there. not worth the potential headache to save a few dollars.

If I were to buy from Amazon or Best Buy (online), I would make sure that it's sold by them and not someone else.
