Microwave repair has defeated me

Samsung Micro stopped heating after a long session of use. the oven turns on, turntable spins, lights come on, no funny nothing. just no heat.

so far:

Looked at door switches, they tested OK but the contacts were suspect. Replaced two of three, nothing. Replaced third, nothing.

Removed HV capacitor and tested - not good, although tested only for a reading at spec resistance. Bought a new one, that tested good at the spec resistance.

Tested the magnetron, in situ, disconnected. That seems to test OK based on what internet people say; there is no continuity between terminal and chassis.

What is next?

A trip to a big box store?

You have some sentimental attachment to that microwave?

there are only so many things that go kaput on these things. plus, I try to save adding to the landfill whenever I can, I think it's pathetic how much we discard -- as long as we can't see it.

Yeah, microwaves are now considered disposable.
I could not get my expensive Kitchen Aid repaired either.
Factory service said it was not something they would repair.
My friend’s husband tried to fix it, but he was also unsuccessful, so bought a GE. Very upset that KA thought it was ok not to offer repair on a micro that cost as much as that one. It was the brand the builder installed, so I had no choice in the brand, at the time.

Make sure you have no microwave leaks after the repair. You can get test cards for that.

You have a problem with somebody trying to repair an item before binning it?

His time, his money.

Sure, repair attempts shouldn't outweigh time and money just to minimize land fill.

At least that's my perspective, because I'm not that concerned about the landfill.

But if one is comfortable opening up kit to see what makes it not tick and if it can be made to tick again, I'm all for it.

My microwave was 40+ yo, and when it stopped, smoke and gas belched out of that mine.

So no, there was no question of opening it up, it's just ~30lbs of landfill.

That sucks, and not in a good way.

'We just build 'em, we don't fix 'em' is certainly common enough, as cheap microwaves have been disposable kit for a long time.

But when it's a pricy item from a pricey brand, one would think that repair is an option.

Of course, most of us here are Apple centric, so this, however infuriating, is nothing new to us.

At least Apple will take their stuff back for 'green' recycling?

What does this mean?
"Samsung Micro stopped heating after a long session of use."

You had it on for an hour straight? You've had the unit for 20 years?
You say the magnetron "seems" ok, but it does sound like the magnetron (or something associated with the magnetron) failed.

just no heat.

I would be concerned if it did heat up.

I am totally in agreement with this philosophy, a "waste not" philosophy that was imparted to me by my parents who suffered through rationing and shortages in England during WWII. I will always try to fix something before disposing of it and have successfully revived dishwashers, washing machines, dryers, computers, and even a microwave. That said, my last microwave experience was much like yours...replaced microswitches, tested circuits, but could not get it to work reliably so eventually sent it off to electronics recycling heaven.

"In science it often happens that scientists say, 'You know that's a really good argument; my position is mistaken,' and then they would actually change their minds and you never hear that old view from them again. They really do it. It doesn't happen as often as it should, because scientists are human and change is sometimes painful. But it happens every day. I cannot recall the last time something like that happened in politics or religion." (1987) -- Carl Sagan
