Got email from Apple announcing rate increase for TV

So I cancelled. iMusic, too. Prime, PBS and Kanopy is enough video for now. Might consider HBO. Never got to see all of GOThrones. Apple Music is redundant for me. I’ve got several hundred cds and several hundred more that I dl’d from the public library. I can keep up with new music on YouTube. I prefer to buy cds. Artists make more that way.

Monthly subscriptions are getting out of hand.

Yea, I figure someone must take into account how many cancellations to expect whenever they do a price increase.

Most of my subscriptions have been on annual plans, and as the year comes up, I'm cancelling them as well, since the next year is going to be more expensive and I'll to a "round-robin" of services, depending on what has a discount (i.e. if there's a "come back" offer or a credit card statement offer).

My family has more subscriptions than I care to admit but I have a hard time cutting any.

We have come to rely on ATV+ as something we watch even more than YoutubeTV. So YTV is on the chopping block. Apple Music could be next as whatever changes they did recently make it tough to use. I use to just be able to ask Siri to play something and it would magically happen. Now she insists it has to be put in my library first. I can't put it into my library without putting everything into the cloud.

We were ready to jump back onto ATV+ until I saw the price increase. I know it's not a fortune but still it's a 43% increase I believe from $7 to $10. Right now we're only paying for Spectrum streaming which will soon go as it's too expensive for what you get at $30/month. We have Prime but we would have it whether it had streaming or not. We canceled Peacock, Paramount, Hulu and Disney hoping for some Black Friday deals.

That’s weird, I regularly ask Siri to play songs that are not in my library, and off it goes.
But I do have my library on the cloud. It allows me to stream my music instead of using my device’s memory.

As soon as the price increase was noted, I dropped ATV+.

I didn't watch it that much, and the amount of the price increase, while not expensive, was an affront.

Apple Music will probably survive a couple more price increases, but not much more than that.

There's two things about the cloud thing. I have a lot of live performances, and from what I have seen, if I load Song A Live to the cloud, the only thing that will ever be played is Song A, never the live version.

More importantly is that cell service is such a junk show these days, you just can't rely on streaming music while driving or otherwise no on wifi. So having locally stored music I don't have to deal with those drop outs.

We have Prime, Netflix, Disney+, Hulu (with Ads), Peacock, Funimation, Spotify. Currently on a free 3 month AppleTV+ from a new device.

I think Prime, Netflix, and Spotify will remain required.

Disney+ and Hulu may have priced themselves out, as they're currently $5/mo combined on black Friday deal last year. I'm going to cancel them after Thanksgiving and if there's something we want to watch, I'll sign up for a month, as whatever we're likely to binge will be worth the $10.

Peacock similarly is a $20 for a year deal, won't be renewing that.

Funimation may require arguing with some family members about how much it's watched.

Between these 4-5 services you're looking at ~$40-50/mo in combined subscription prices going forward, versus ~$7-$17 now.

Guilty confession - I used a free week trial for Paramount+ to binge SNW - I didn't like season 2 as much as season 1, it mostly felt like building towards the season ending cliffhanger with the Gorn.

At some point, raising prices will result in a net negative lifetime customer value…

But they did this with Adobe. So why not with modern movies?

They upped their News service, too. $3/month to $12.99
