It sounds pretty cool. I did not see where it said this car actually gets 25 MPG with the engine tuned to get 800 HP. I would be more inclined to believe 25 MPG if they had an independent source test it and had it pass emissions too, or put them it into mass production and get it certified under the 2008 EPA testing guidelines.

I would be impressed if they had done this with a vehicle that would pass California emissions tests.
The vehicle is not legal to be registered in CA, even though it is sporting CA plates.
According to CARB, the emission laws the vehicle has to comply to are the ones for the newest component emission certification, the body, or the engine.

It will get mid 20s when tuned back down to 400hp. Stock Duramax is already over 300hp, so it's about where most people end up with a chip, intake and exhaust anyway.

As for meeting CARB requirements, if the engine was built pre 1/07, which is pretty much gauranteed, not that hard. If it's a pre 1/03, even easier. Besides that, there is no emissions testing of diesel cars/pickups in California. Only testing is for fleets, and that's only an in-house opacity test.

So, I think it would be able to be registered with minimal fuss. Refereee station, exemption, registration.

It was an impressive installation. What was more amazing is that they did a major powerplant install like this, without the usual "Electronics and Shizz" job they normally do. Funniest was a visit from the Governator. They pointed out that the seats were made out of Hemp and he said "Hey- I just signed a bill that made this illegal !" and then aside to an offcamera aide "Call CHP and the Attorney General's office, I vant these guys arrested ".

Just watched the video of the the drag @ Pomona. That turbo sounds wicked!
