Should I keep buying my now grown-up nephews presents and gift cards...?

I got them some cool stuff when they were kids. (Proud of myself that I got them into Catan years ahead of the other kids so they swept the floor when their friends finally got their sets.)

As they've gotten older and gone onto college, I got them more adult gifts, picked them up tool kits and Amazon gift cards for their new apartments.

Now, they're both out of college. Both got good jobs immediately. Moved across the country. Supporting themselves.

Their grandma (who will probably toss them each a hundred bucks) and mom both suggested that I don't need to get them anything this year when I asked what they might want.

Time to stop buying them holiday-presents?

(What about birthdays?)

Do they give you gifts? If they do, it's nice to reciprocate. If not, maybe that's a sign that the gift giving could come to a halt.

We migrated from gifts to cash to birthday cards as the more distant relatives grew up.

Holidays are probably over. If they're local, take them to a restaurant for their birthday.

Don't base your decision on what others say or if they are sending you a gift. Give because you want to with no strings attached. If you feel obligated, then you are giving for the wrong reason.

When gifts become obligations, they aren't gifts anymore.

Well, now that I'm a middle aged adult, I reversed the dynamic and bought gifts for my uncle.

Of course, he still gifts to me, so no real breakthrough here.

Hurts like a bastid...
