I have numerous ad/script-blockers in Firefox for most of my browsing, some ad blockers in Safari for sites that won't load properly in Firefox with all the blockers, and use Tor in Brave for everything else.

And Little Snitch blocking trackers from various sites.

And I block Facebook and its trackers from my router.

Some useful tools:
Adblock Plus
DuckDuckGo
Ghostery
Google Analytics Blocker
NoScript
Privacy Badger
uBlock Origin

Privacy Badger is the main one I use. If a site wants me to turn off ad blocking, I don't visit the sitee.

uBlock origin with a variety of filters, it is very rare that something gets through. I have not seen a youtube ad in years.

There seems to be a war going on in the YouTube-verse. If you block YouTube ads and YouTube catches you and warns you a few times, YouTube will block you from watching anything on YouTube.

It seems to be tied to being logged in to youtube. I have several current adblockers and use Brave not logged in to youtube, and it works well.

"Defending your own life when in immediate danger to me is a basic right of each person. " Lemon Drop 11/17/2023 03:10 pm

Heller, 554 U.S. 570 (2008) Private citizens have the right under the Second Amendment to possess an ordinary type of weapon and use it for lawful, historically established situations such as self-defense in a home, even when there is no relationship to a local militia.

"The conclusion is thus inescapable that the history, concept, and wording of the second amendment to the Constitution of the United States, as well as its interpretation by every major commentator and court in the first half-century after its ratification, indicates that what is protected is an individual right of a private citizen to own and carry firearms in a peaceful manner." Right to Keep and Bear Arms: Report of the Subcommittee on the Constitution of the Committee on the Judiciary, United States Senate, Ninety-seventh Congress, Second Session. U.S. Government Printing Office. 1982. Digitized September 30, 2008.

From the NYSRPA v Bruen "Today, we decline to adopt that two-part approach. . . . Despite the popularity of this two-step approach, it is one step too many. Step one of the predominant framework is broadly consistent with Heller, which demands a test rooted in the Second Amendment's text, as informed by history."

Belt / Suspenders

There was something on Reddit that pi-hole wasn't catching and the block I added wasn't working. Also had that problem on a comics page. uBlock fixed that. Wasn't worth my time to keep trying to get pi-hole to catch it.

uBlock Origin reworked their extension after the YouTube debacle. Google was loading a transparent zero-length ad over pages and denying content to any browser that blocked it. It just made the ad blockers more powerful/efficient.

I don't block ads, generally. I won't visit sites that have too much ad-junk on them.

I don't want to motivate an escalation in a senseless war.
