What a drag.

When Leo did his AMA he said Twit ad revenue was like almost $750k a year or on its way to that. So I thought he was golden.

Then he stopped doing the radio call in tech problem show, syndicated, and seemed very happy to be getting out.

Then, I swear, I heard him on the radio with the current date a few weeks ago. Doing the tech call in show.

I'd listen to the TWIT livestream and repeat show quite often. Clicked today and ...

Leo Laporte — “The Tech Guy” — heard locally on KFI (640 AM) Saturdays and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., announced his retirement from radio effective in December. His last live show will air Dec. 18...

I haven't seen/heard a TWiT livestream in ages. Are you sure they were still doing that? I thought they recorded on Sunday and published on Monday.

I remember him from the ScreenSavers - a good host. He is 66 now and will be 67 when he retires - a good age IMHO.

Due to costs associated with hardware and software used to provide the TWiT live stream 24/7 to multiple streaming providers, TWiT has made the difficult decision to end its always-on live stream.

As of November 13, 2023, we will no longer stream re-runs while not doing live production. We will strive to stream on YouTube as often as possible during live production of some of our shows. If you wish to watch any pre-show setup and post-show discussions, these will now be exclusive to full Club TWiT members via our Club TWiT Discord server. (Discord access is not available with any discounted single-show subscriptions.) Hosts who choose to participate with chat will now do so via Discord.

I don't know how long he was originally planning to do TWiT stuff, but he's been talking about retiring for years.

At one point he was bandying about the idea of retiring to some South/Central American country, can't remember which one, but a common destination for American expats.

Poor Andy Ihnatko is out of a Job.

I think MacBreak Weekly was his best paying gig.

He has/had a gig with WGBH (?) but that never seemed steady and I can't imagine it payed well.

I used to see him and MWSF and he was always a pleasure to talk to.

A lot of people were in some degree in the employ of LaPorte.

I never cared much for the guy but he had some great guests and co-hosts, and it's my suspicion he ran a some co-hosts off to greener pastures.

Once upon a time, I never missed a MBW, and struggled thru Steve Gibson's Security Now.

Over the last couple of months, I meant to ask Laporte a question, and now that opportunity is gone.

Oh well.
