Can someone explain what a Gaming Monitor is and how it differs from a regular, overall, good-quality display (that I might want to use for my graphics work)?

AFAIK, it's mainly about response time. Gamers claim they can tell the difference 1/60th of a second and 1/120 of a second.

“Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented." - Eli Weisel

"To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public." - Theodore Roosevelt (1918)

"I don’t want to see religious bigotry in any form. It would disturb me if there was a wedding between the religious fundamentalists and the political right. The hard right has no interest in religion except to manipulate it." - Billy Graham 1981

"Politics and governing demand compromise. But these Christians believe they are acting in the name of God, so they can't and won't compromise" - Barry Goldwater

Are the people who get these the same ones that sit in the first row of the movie theater?

Rtings.com reviews TVs and monitors for use in different situations and describes some of what makes a gaming monitor.

There is more to it than just refresh rates, but there have been tests that show higher refresh rates improve a players performance in games, but it's only about 8% - 20% that have reaction times to really make full use of it.

Compatibility with consoles and computers is a main requirement for a gaming display. Top displays will be compatible with the most recent HDMI and DisplayPort input standards, along with variable refresh rates. Variable refresh rates (G-SYNC Compatible, AMD FreeSync Premium) prevents tearing of image if the image frames change at a different rate than 60/120 Hz.

Another performance area important to gamers is low input lag, and short pixel response times to reduce smearing of fast moving images at high refresh rates. VA and some OLED displays are usually good for this.

Contrast and HDR performance are related categories. OLED is one of the better types of displays because it doesn't use backlights that bleed into dark areas. It does have limitations, OLED can't get as bright (yet) as VA panels, so they don't work quite as well in sunny rooms.

Gamers don't usually care too much about wide viewing angles since they are right in front all the time, so a gaming monitor might sacrifice really wide vertical viewing angles for the previous categories.

I've got a 43" LG and while expansive it's perfect for page layout work. I tried multiple monitors and (for my workflow) the larger layout works better.

(FWIW, I do still sort of have multiple monitors; my M1 MBP is off to the right, and I usually have a movie, YouTube, Music, etc. on its screen.)

You are running this off a M1 MBP? What model? I am trying to figure out of this will work withy M1 Mini as I have not yet gotten my grubby mitts on an M3 MBP.

I ran a 4k monitor and a 1920x1200 monitor on my M1 mini and now on my M2 Pro mini. Works just fine.
