Bernie,

No deal even if it's a good price for an Apple model. Even discounted the Apple model is overpriced for its features and not definitely not as good as its competitors.

Here's an example of a better unit for less money:

those things are ancient - even if they are 'new' - I bet 1/2 of them are DOA

I have one... never used it. I did, however, get an M-Disc compatible DVD burner. Still waiting for a time to start using it. I plan to put all my pictures on the discs, which are supposed to last a really long time.

I have an old school LG M-Disc that is the size of a shoe box. I found those minis get tired blood.

I've got both styles, but Apple's kinda bugs me, cuz ya gotta jump thru hoops to make it play nice w/ Macs that may have had an optical in 'em. Use a data doubler for more storage in an old MBP, and then wanna burn/use a disc? You're SOL. Learned that the hard way, so bought a similarly constructed mini LG USB that plays nice w/ everybody. For mass quantities of burning, the big ones w/ the desktop are the only way to fly.

Sometimes it is what it is...
and then there's times when it's really better.
