Did you know that in La, they Soda. -> Pop?

I was a dead giveaway when I went for a visit, and said Soda.

Well now she tells me she's been having to be jumped and car will start, she can let it run (drive) for an hour, and then it will start, but then not in am, when she is ready for work.

I buy batteries here locally at Costco, although there customer service (Time waiting in line) is crappy. I love them, but dislike their treatment of tire customers.

So do I send her to Walmart and go for the $179.84 650 CCA as a replacement?

She doesn't have a Costco membership, so other choices would be Autozone, Oreillys, etc.... are there any of these locations that would help install the battery? Or ? Should she consider that she will be doing the install with the help of her local friends and family?

There are only a few car battery manufacturers. That said, just because they come from the same manufacturer doesn't mean that they're the same quality. I prefer Interstate or Duralast.

Does she have AAA? They will come to the house, test the battery, and replace it right there. Super easy.

There are 4 battery manufacturers in the US. Johnson and Interstate are 2 of them. All the other batteries (Die Hard, Duralast, etc.) are made by one of the 4.

I would look at CCA capacity, price, warranty, ease of exercising warranty and price, and be less concerned with brand name.

AutoZone around here will change it in the parking lot for you.

(in Louisiana, or at least the New Orleans region, we called them soft drinks, not Soda nor Pop)

Echoing what others have said; Walmart is not a bad option. They have the whole "good/better/best" thing with the batteries as well.

I've had to replace 3 batteries in 5 different cars (family & aunt) over the last year and a half; had some sticker shock. They'd gone up a handful since the last time I'd done it.

Good idea to also have the charging system checked. There is a small chance an electrical fault started it. A weak voltage regulator would age the battery faster, and check for a drain when the ignition is off.

Yup, batteries are now in the $200 range. It’s all those EVs sucking up all the batteries, another reason to ban them.

Batteries don't last the way they used to. Honda batteries in new cars are notorious for dying at the 3-3.5 year mark.

Interesting. I just checked and it looks like (at least here in MA) Advance Auto Parts does offer free installation of a car battery, but AutoZone and O'Reilly do not. Or at least they don't say they do, as Advance does. Frankly I thought they all did.

Yep. A friend's 2019 CRV just didn't start one day a couple of weeks ago. Unfortunately he figured it was a bigger problem because all sorts of lights went on when he jumped it. So he took it to Honda and they happily replaced the battery for lots of cash. I'm going to buy a new Costco battery next week for our 2020 CRV as a preventative purchase.

Pretty typical. The AGM batteries in my truck are over $200 each.

I just get mine at Autozone, they do the swap and test the alternator as well. They will want the old one.

She's picking it up now at a Walmart in Amite, La. They will bring it out to her car.

I wanted to use a $200 gift debit Visa card from a cancelled flight from DELTA. But price of AGP battery was $179 and by the time they add on tax, and $12 return old Battery, and a Confirmation $, that will be refunded, when picked up. But price was higher than $200. So I called WALMART for some help to see if I could use 1 or 2 of these DELTA cards. Answer was no. Even after he was nice enough to get $15 off spending over xxx amount with a CODE that I was able to enter.

So bottom line the price of battery before getting $12 back for old one, was $194.07

At least there are plenty of WM around to have it replaced, etc.

Will have her keep receipts in glove box, and possibly the tools necessary to change it.

It is what it is.

Most people just call soft drinks here in the South Coke--no matter what brand it is.

Would recommend joining AAA. My family is on the plan. Wife said we would not need it when I joined us and included our daughter. The next week we were moving her to grad school and she had a flat in the middle of nowhere. AAA came and changed the tire in no time. Batteries are the same. They will come and jump start you off and/or replace your battery on the spot.

As mentioned earlier a battery jump pack is a good option. Have one for all our vehicles as well as daughter has one.

This fall I checked truck, car and my daughter's batteries. All were past their dates and measured on the weak side. Replaced them eventually at Advanced Auto down the street. Installed it in the parking lot by the employees. Prices were somewhat reasonable.

My auto insurance covers everything AAA does.

Autozone or batteries plus depending upon what she’s near. They both have reasonable prices.

Very common symptoms of a bad battery in a Honda

I really should get the 12v. battery in our Volt checked because it is the one that came new from the manufacturer in 2013. Same goes for my 2014 ELR. I’ve been procrastinating because of the $200+ for an AGM battery.
