Convicted cryptocurrency fraudster Sam Bankman-Fried has resorted to trading fish for services while behind bars in New York.
With his access to crypto cut off, the former CEO reportedly used mackerel to pay for a haircut in jail, Knewz.com has learned.
Bankman-Fried, 31, has been in custody at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn since August, when his bail was revoked after prosecutors proved he tried to intimidate witnesses in his criminal fraud trial over the collapse of cryptocurrency exchange FTX.
Mackerel has replaced cigarettes as a form of currency at the jail, according to The Wall Street Journal, which reported that Bankman-Fried traded some pouches, familiarly called "macks," for a fellow inmate to trim to his shaggy 'do.
The FTX founder apparently learned the tricks of in-custody trade from his cellmates, a former Honduran president and a Mexican police officer, the Journal reported.

I saw that awhile ago.
It's a non-story. Everyone in that prison uses the same forms of exchange. New prisoner adopts these forms of exchange. News!

A guy convicted of the biggest embezzlement scheme in the billions of dollars now trading fish is quite the story. While some people go from rags to riches, he went from riches to fishes.

I resent the Lakers arena being called Crypto.
Maybe the name will return soon. Not sure if the crypto related companies will last.
