Oh, man!

I'm sending that to a friend of mine. He has strings of those tree-shaped pine-fresheners dangling under the dash and buckets of desiccant all over his car.

Mostly smells like our back seat passenger, the dog.

My takeaway is that I would do the aftermarket gasket and leave the rest alone. Forget drying the filters out, I'd just replace them.

We had this with our first Model Y. Just replace the air filter.

I watched this video a few weeks ago and ordered the aftermarket gasket... the thing was really poorly made and I returned it. I've ordered another brand, but it won't be here for a few weeks.

…..a car doesn’t have a nose……so it can’t smell…..

Poor design. Other automakers figured it out a long time ago, Tesla just doesn't have the experience yet to know about and perfect these small nuanced issues. Either that or they just don't care and replacing the filter every 3 months is a good enough solution for them.

It’s complicated. The Tesla heat pump is a great innovation. And we love the climate controls in our Teslas. I’ve driven BMWs, and Tesla has the German car beat in this area.

Yes, Tesla’s also have some of these nuanced issues. We did not have to replace our filter every 3 months, just once.

I've had that problem with nasty air filters in several cars I've owned. They get really nasty. I haven't had it yet in the Tesla, but I'm sure I'll have to replace the air filter at some point.

There are things about the Tesla that other makers haven't "got" yet. We'll see how long it takes for them to copy.

We have several friends and family that own 3’s and Y’s dating back to 2017. None of them have reported this issue, and we regularly talk to them about their Teslas since we’re the ones who pushed them into buying one. However, all our ICE vehicles have had stinky air at one time or another, which a simple air filter replacement fixed. I’m getting to think this story is much ado about nothing, since it seems it’s a sporadic issue on all makes and models of cars.

Cabin air filter replacement was included in the factory maintenance schedule for my previous ICE vehicle and I believe it also is for my current Tesla. Seems pretty cut and dried to me: Replace the cabin air filter in accordance with manufacturer's recommendation.

It is what it is.
