New health insurance model... Surest?

Anyone familiar with this "surest" plan from United Health Care?

I have CIGNA from my wife's job but I can get surest for no cost to me ($0 per paycheck) or for a lower cost per family than CIGNA.

I did a little research on this and saw mixed opinions. I'd like to hear more thoughts.

Thanks

More than a little concerned about any services from United Healthcare right now.

Dear Abby always said “If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is”. There have to be gotchas somewhere.

Like “we cover based on reasonable and customary fees” and that is based on doctor bills in Somalia.

My son has UH through his employer (public school district) but he determined that they needed to buy an external policy because of costs that will be associated with the births of their twins in the spring.

We switched from UH because it was really really hard to get reimbursements.

UH sucks. One of the reasons I want to switch jobs.

I've been on UHC Medicare Advantage HMO for about 4 years and haven't had any issues with it. I know they denied my spine surgery last Nov. but my surgeon got on the phone and they approved it right away. In the past two years I've had I think 3 MRI's and spine surgery and I can't complain about how UHC handled it.

Before jumping onto Medicare, I had United through my wife's work. I had zero complaints with them.

How long ago?

They used to be fantastic. Would have said that United was the best in the country a couple of decades ago, but around 2004-ish, they started going down the crapper and have had scandal after scandal.

I don’t see scandal after scandal in your link, just normal business practices by a giant insurance company.

This is why people need to evaluate their Medicare supplemental plan carefully. With a Medigap plan, this wouldn't have been an issue, only with Advantage plans. FWIW, my wife and I just signed up with a Medigap plan through AARP/UnitedHealthcare.

If these practices are the norm, we all need to move to Canada.

They automatically decline a large number of claims. Takes a lot of my time to deal with that and get them overturned. Not worth the frustration. Just run away.
