Tonight's Official "Lost" Thread: WARNING, SPOILERS WITHIN!!!

Watch for Vanessa Branch, she is scheduled to appear briefly in this episode, in a guest role as Karen, in Charlie's flashback... I think she might be playing Liam (Charlie's brother)'s wife. I am a big fan of hers...

For those of you who don't know her, she is an up-and-comer who shows a lot of promise-- mostly she's done soaps but also a few films (for example, the Pirates of the Caribbean series)... but she may be best known as the "Girl in the Orbit Gum Commercials" (she always makes me laugh in those ads!). She even had a guest appearance in one episode of ST:Voyager. Info here: [us.imdb.com], and here's her official website: [www.vanessabranch.biz] (note, no affiliation, I'm just a fan... but I do notice that she looks spectacular in that calendar! winking smiley...)

... I've emailed with her a few times-- extraordinarily nice person as well as beautiful. No response about her appearance in Lost though; I'm suspicious that they made her keep mum about it, for obvious reasons. I'm assuming they must have to sign an NDA. The whole set of Lost must be like one enormous black hole of secrecy... even the spoiler sites are very sparse about what's coming up after the next few episodes. Anybody here remember the guy on Low End Swap List who was asking for donations of ancient Mac equipment?? (Here's the link to the post where I first mentioned it: [forums.dealmac.com]) I wonder if we can all reasonably assume at this point that the guy was probably for real, given what we now know... winking smiley

Don't these people know anything about make-shift shelter building?

If it rains those tarps will become swimming pools, you need to make one side higher than the other, or at least stick a pole up in the middle so it can run off.

And where do they keep getting all these tarps?

mikebw, I'm guessing some (a lot) of stuff was in the bunker.

Yes, Hugo (Hurley) really blew it. Jeez, the woman was naked! I really like Cynthia Watros-- hope they don't lose her from the cast because of her DUI.

Yeah i saw that on Survivor. Ya gotta build the roof kinda leaning to one side. And build a platform of sorts so you're not sleeping on the ground. You'll wake up with ants all over you. Or island rats nibbling on your toes.

If i was on the island i'd totally just live in the shelter with the computer. I'll even do the number pressing duties. No prob.

LOL "the hobbit", yes, I thought they were already officially engaged. And I don't think you could call the dating line and actually chat with her, she was just a model appearing in the advertising, but I'm sure you already knew that... ;)

with that and I don't really want to know either. Of all
people I thought Locke would understand Charlie is really on
to something with those dreams.

Also -- what business does Eko have baptising anybody? Yeah, technically and officially he's a priest, having gotten the ordination papers, but... he's not a "real" priest! Is he going to have to explain at some later point the fact that he's basically a druglord going around masquerading as a priest?

Unless he got rid of the heroin inside, and is keeping them to ward off vampires? (Oh wait, that's crucifixes, not Virgin Mary statues!)

iaJim, I dunno why Eko was marking trees... maybe some sort of defense against the Others? Maybe he wants to build a chapel? Who knows...

Locke turning violent, I think he was fed up with Charlie's shenanigans... frankly, I would have been too. It's one thing to have vivid dreams about having to save a baby; it's another to purposefully set a fire which could conceivably kill everyone, in order to distract people so that you could make off with a baby that everyone has told you to stay away from!

Edit: Newt, I still don't get you. What does Locke's daddy issues (and yes, he does have them) have to do with it? (I believe in a future episode, we do find out how he got paralyzed...)

Edit: Someone said here that they don't want to know what direction it's going with Charlie, so I won't say... but I do have some idea.

I though the episode was pretty slow, like they're marking time or something. And I thought that maybe they were building toward the "Others" making a grab for the baby and Charlie saving the day.

Maybe Locke's starting to show his dark side. He referred to the baby as "our boy" and seems to be going out of his way to keep Charlie away. Is there yet another love triangle forming?

Sawyer continues to evolve into Mr. Nice Guy. They oughta put a stop to that right now.

Peter, what "disease" are you talking about? Did I miss something? Charlie got a dose or something?

Libby's cute, I agree.

Ok I got a phone call in the middle of it, yes I do know actual people not just you guys, and missed the exchange between Charlie and Eko. I assume it was where Eko told Charlie about baptising the kid.

I just got really confused this time with all the religious symbolism with the visions and such. Maybe next week will make more sense.

Mike, I don't agree that the episode was slow -- I think they spent a fair amount of time on further development of Charlie's character through flashbacks. And it was interesting too, because you got to see some of the basis for why he might be enormously protective of Aaron-- the deplorable behavior of his brother as regards Karen and Megan.

I also got the distinct impression that they may have cut a fair amount from the episode for time. For example, it was hinted at that Charlie was the real talent in the family, and that Liam just essentially used Charlie to always further himself... I also got the impression that something happened to their mother, and that's why his niece was named after her.

I too thought from last week that the Others might be involved somehow, but maybe that will be next week...

The disease: it's been hinted at that there was some sort of disease on the island. Rousseau claimed that her entire party got it, possibly including her son Alex. For this reason, she killed them all. Since in the last episode we heard one of the Others referred to as Alex, if this is her son, it's possible that the Others all have the disease. Also, the hatch was marked on the inside: "Quarantine", so as to suggest that the hatch was sealed in order to warn the occupants from exiting and catching whatever it was outside.

rgG, the thing between Eko and Charlie was that Charlie told him about his dream (with his mother and Claire in some sort of nativity scene!) warning him that Aaron was in danger and needed to be baptized; Eko said that Charlie should consider the possibility that the danger was real.

Oh, and another reason I suspect that some stuff got cut-- I was surprised at how small Vanessa's part was. I'd have imagined that she had shot more scenes which explained how it was that she was somehow convinced into taking Liam back (yeah right, like she would take in an addict and help him get a job through one of her relatives!)... there were a lot of "unsaid" things in that episode.

I still believe that it's Locke's father standing behind the
tinted glass window during the training film for the island
project. They zoom up and in almost close enough to see but not
quite. If you ahve the series check it out. I had a screen

PeterB Quote.:
"I'm assuming they must have to sign an NDA."

You do know that you don't get the whole script?
You only get the pages that you are in, or sides as they are called.
Also, very rarely is the whole cast or even the majority of the cast is there, only the people that are needed for the scene. There is usually several units shooting different parts of the script in several locations. Also, it is very, very rare that a show is shot in a linear fashion.
And the stunts are shot separately, with none of the actors, just their stunt doubles.

NDA's are never used in Hollywood, if you talk about the secret stuff, you tend to not get hired again, unless you are a big star already.

BGnR, sure, I knew all that already. The question is, how are the producers managing to keep everything under wraps? Even though the actors only get only their own scenes, obviously some people need to know the whole thing, and some of the actors will still be privy to things...

Ooops, Dave, you're right, I forgot all about that...

They showed that Desmond had been taking the vaccine for at least some portion of time before he left the hatch...

Also, when he made contact with the Oceanic survivors, he seemed genuinely surprised that none of them were sick. Possibly either the disease disappeared at some point (and Desmond and his partner didn't know about that, and were just taking the vaccine for nothing), or else everyone outside DOES have the disease, and they just don't know it yet???

Better take that vaccine!

What really stuck with me (besides Libby getting naked) was her comment about the washer and dryer in the bunker. Something like "are these things newer than everything else in the bunker?". I mean this ahs got to be more than a running joke, everyone has noticed it. The whole bunker is like 70's era stuff, and then you have these amazingly new washer & dryers.
This more than hints at the fact there is contact with the outside world, you don't just build these things out of sticks on the Island.

ANyway, I think Locke is turning evil. I mean he has never snapped like that before, maybe the result of his past experiences with his father, but maybe the 'disease'.
I think he intends to persuade or manipulate Charlie with the drugs in the future, although that seems awfully shallow of him so maybe not.

Mr. Eko, I wondered if the trees he had marked got burned in the fire. The shot of him in the charred brush didn't seem to have any large trees like the ones he had marked though. I belive he intends to build a structure either using those trees as timber or as boundaries.

Charlie is obviously being affected by something, mental disorder or physical disease, and the other survivors seem reluctant to help him. Maybe if Locke can prove that he is no longer dependent on drugs then people will accept him and in turn help him.

I don't see why they have given up trying to use the radios, I guess that comes up next episode though.

And the raft idea seemed to work ok, just need to try again and not make the same mistakes.

I'll bet that the new washer/dryer IS significant; and it is unlikely that the Dharma bunker could have been there since the 70's/80's and still keep enough stock stuff for people to live on for all that time (e.g., the people manning the bunker must have been receiving supplies over the years). Probably they mentioned the washer/dryer to confirm what the fans had already noticed, to point out, "yes, this is significant, we did this purposefully."

I don't think Locke is turning evil; I just think he's come to the conclusion that Charlie is still using, and can't be trusted (a reasonable conclusion!).

Mr. Eko-- I re-ran that one scene again, and all he says about the trees is that those are the "ones he likes" -- who knows what the heck the guy is thinking. Maybe the guy is actually a druid?

But what about Libby? Everybody likes her...

And aren't you pulling for Sawyer to recover? No? Well me neither, so that's ok.

Anna Lucia still gets on my nerves, I bet she goes all commando and dies in the 'war', if that ever happens.

And yes, the washer & dryer must be significant, unless Whirlpool paid a huge amount for product placement, (or whatever brand those are made by).

Do we have proof that Charlie was using again? Could be the Bubonic plague, or the black death maybe? Rubella? How about whooping cough? I give up.
