NO RAM or Storage upgrades in Modern Macs.

San Antonio, TX (in the old city)

"All that is required for evil to prevail is for good men to do nothing." - Edmund Burke
“Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented." - Eli Weisel

"To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public." - Theodore Roosevelt (1918)

"I don’t want to see religious bigotry in any form. It would disturb me if there was a wedding between the religious fundamentalists and the political right. The hard right has no interest in religion except to manipulate it." - Billy Graham 1981

"Politics and governing demand compromise. But these Christians believe they are acting in the name of God, so they can't and won't compromise" - Barry Goldwater

No, RAM is soldered to the logic board. The SSD storage is also soldered to the board. No user upgrades doable.

This has been the basic design direction from Apple the last decade. First soldered RAM, and lately soldered SSD storage for most of their products. The Mac Studio has its storage socketed, but no reports yet on success changing to a larger storage module, and no third party SSD modules I have read about.

Either the 16/512 mini or the M1 MacBook Pro are deals of the century if they're not a scam.

If you shell out for an M1 Mini, factor in the cost of a TB hub or dock. It's a ridiculously limited machine.

How so? Plenty of ports including USB-A as well as two TB.

2 TB ports, 2 USB are plenty? I consider that extremely limited. I like my 2018 Intel Mini (4 TB ports) much better. You still have the T2 chip to deal with, but you avoid some of the extremely frustrating security "features" inherent in the silicon Macs. To get comparable connectivity, you have to look at the pricier "Pro" models.

I find 2Tb 2usb adequate, particularly at the price point.
What would you like to connect that you could not?

Drives, devices. I should have done my homework before spending money on it. I can't think of anything I actually like about it.

How about the fact that it beats the crap out of just about any Intel Mac made?

Both drives and devices can be connected, 2 ports @40gbps and 2@5gbps.
Daisychain and hub on the former, hub on the latter.
I still can’t see it, but I’m really trying.

the only thing that I think is ridiculous is the price of a TB hub with multiple slots. if it weren't for that, I would say that the price is stupid low for one of these machines. (I'm satisfied at the moment, as I don't have much of a workload on the M1.)

It is pretty crazy how powerful the M1 is compared to Intel. Also remarkable, I was doing some serious crunching on the M1 and the fan rarely turned on.

Agreed. My M1 Air only uses about 4 watts at idle and that is with the screen on using a significant portion of that 4 watts.
