.....Jan. 21.....goes from 66 cents to 68 cents....

Stamp Prices Will Rise (Again) in January 2024

....This probably won't be the only stamp price increase in 2024, either.

It's part of a course correction by the U.S. Postal Service, which has been aggressively raising stamp prices since August 2021. In an announcement, officials attributed the price increases to “inflationary pressures on operating expenses and the effects of a previously defective pricing model.”

The USPS is supposed to sustain itself financially rather than rely on taxpayer dollars, but the agency has been losing money for more than 15 years, according to an August report by the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO). The USPS’s expenses continue to grow faster than revenues, according to the GAO report, which also notes that mail volumes are falling for some of the agency’s most profitable products.

The latest round of rate changes, including the increase from 66 cents to 68 cents for a "Forever" stamp, is scheduled for Jan. 21.

If you send a lot of mail, you can consider stocking up on these stamps now before the 2-cent price increase takes effect as they will work indefinitely.......

......they keep raising.........the prices............?!

I'm okay. I saw the writing on the wall around Jan 2021. I have an unopened roll of 100 "forever" stamps plus an additional 15 single stamps. I send maybe one or two pieces of mail a month, if that many. Even with that, I'm still ahead of the game: I bought a several-year-old roll on eBay for around $40.
Should last two or three years minimum.

Still cheap when considering what you get for the cost of a stamp.

Whats your rate of return? How does it compare to a stock market index?

I think first class postage was 4 cents when I was in elementary school.

But those are not forever stamps. They are still worth 4 cents today. You need about 16 to mail a letter.

Still cheap, and we collected all our stamps in the recent move. I doubt I will be buying any first class postage for letters before I retire.

Did congress ever repeal the stupid law that forced the USPS to fund the retirement plan for employees that hadn't even been hired yet?

Nope1. All part of a long range strategy to wither support for USPS and take it private.

And the price of about 7 stamps equaled the price of a gallon of gas. Not too far off today too.
