Run... AWAY You Fools - overpriced Mac mini i7 quad core at Woot

I don't know why I'm posting this other than just for kicks because it's at least $200 over what it should be for a computer no one really wants.

Only 4GB RAM (although it can be upgraded) and a 1TB spinny drive.

Woot has really gotten worse since Amazon bought it.

A 2012 for the price of an M1. Ludicrous.

OWC sells the same configuration for $149.00 https://eshop.macsales.com/configure-my-mac/UAEE2D5CXX2XXXB

OWC will also let you configure it with more memory or swap in an SSD drive.

The 2012 i7 (2.6) is still my main desktop mac. I'd set the monetary value pretty close to zero at this point.

Wow, I paid $170 over that for the same machine.

Directly from Apple.

Overpriced, underpowered. Why would you buy one of these instead of, say, an M2 mini for $80 more if you can find the right deal (or wait until M3 minis are introduced likely later this year and maybe as soon as April?)

Just for the record, I'm typing this (and the O.P.) on my 2012 2.6GHz i7 quad-core mini with 16GB RAM and a 512GB SSD. It's a fine machine for what I use it for, but I sure wouldn't pay $400 for that Woot configuration.

OWC will also let you configure it with more memory or swap in an SSD drive.

And their upgrade prices are very reasonable. For example, a 16/512SSD configuration only adds $60 to the total.

I maxed it out on processor, RAM and 2TB ssd and it was still only $329.

I need a new beater Windows laptop for working in the field, and it is NOT coming from WOOT.

"Defending your own life when in immediate danger to me is a basic right of each person. " Lemon Drop 11/17/2023 03:10 pm

Heller, 554 U.S. 570 (2008) Private citizens have the right under the Second Amendment to possess an ordinary type of weapon and use it for lawful, historically established situations such as self-defense in a home, even when there is no relationship to a local militia.

"The conclusion is thus inescapable that the history, concept, and wording of the second amendment to the Constitution of the United States, as well as its interpretation by every major commentator and court in the first half-century after its ratification, indicates that what is protected is an individual right of a private citizen to own and carry firearms in a peaceful manner." Right to Keep and Bear Arms: Report of the Subcommittee on the Constitution of the Committee on the Judiciary, United States Senate, Ninety-seventh Congress, Second Session. U.S. Government Printing Office. 1982. Digitized September 30, 2008.

From the NYSRPA v Bruen "Today, we decline to adopt that two-part approach. . . . Despite the popularity of this two-step approach, it is one step too many. Step one of the predominant framework is broadly consistent with Heller, which demands a test rooted in the Second Amendment's text, as informed by history."
