Nick Saben is retires as Alabama Football Coach

Nick Saban, considered among the greatest college football coaches of all time who won six national titles at Alabama, is retiring, sources told ESPN's Chris Low on Wednesday.

Saban, 72, just completed his 17th season at Alabama, which ended in a loss to eventual national champion Michigan in the Rose Bowl.

The man has nothing left to prove, he eclipsed Alabama legend Bear Bryant. He lead his teams to seven national championships in 20 years (1 at LSU, 6 at Alabama) but two of those seasons were with the Miami Dolphins in the NFL. So his teams won the national championship once every three years on average since 2003.

Word has it that Lane Kiffin just wet himself.

EDIT - it's apparently official. He has told the team.

I saw Alabama fans complaining about him in the last few years. What a spoiled fan base.

Don’t celebrate too soon rgG. Bama’s got enough cash to tempt Kirby back but will probably end up with Kiffen again.

I don’t think Kirby would defect, but who knows.
I am just sick of hearing about Saban.

I saw some Bama fans complaining about Saban and I looked up his record. What a bum.

11 SEC (2001, 2003, 2009, 2012, 2014–2016, 2018, 2020, 2021, 2023)

12 SEC Western Division (2001, 2003, 2008, 2009, 2012, 2014-2016, 2018, 2020, 2021, 2023)

Whoever comes in will likely be a short-term fill. When the new coach doesn't win a national championship within three years, he'll be booted. Alabama chewed through seven coaches in the two decades after Bear Bryant retired, before hiring Saben.

My devious mind says to go after your strongest competition (Dabo Sweeney, Kirby Smart, Brian Kelly) to cripple their current team and give yourself a shot for a few years before moving on.

Dabo already makes $11m for Clemson to go 4-4 in the ACC this year.

Overrated.

The recruiting landscape has changed with NIL deals. Some recruits that will make decent deals no longer feel the absolute need to go to Alabama for absolute exposure and money. Unreasonable Bama fans may be in for years of coach carousel. No one is going to replicate what Saban did.
