There's no way it's actually used.... you could use the savings to buy a set of these, in case your bolts are inaccessible like mine.

I would say new, but just FYI, when Amazon says "used, like new condition", I've bought things like that (admittedly not a toilet seat though) -- and discovered that, in fact, the item was essentially unused... no use that I could see... so more or less open box condition. I think they have to say "used" in that situation because they can't say for 100% sure that it wasn't ever used, but the likelihood is extremely good that it wasn't.

Yup, most of the time, it's really just an "open box return". And if it's easy enough to return (i.e. convenient for you), then why not save $18!

Our new neighbor removed four toilets from his used house that he bought. All our old neighbors laughed about that because the new neighbors no doubt use public toilets from time to time. They were all in like new shape.

If an item is new but the box is damaged, it is often sold as Like New.

So read the condition description details, make sure all hardware is there. Worse case, you get it, are not comfortable with the condition and return it.

Used like new usually just means the box was opened.

Our new neighbor removed four toilets from his used house that he bought... They were all in like new shape.

That's a lot of toilets in one house.

Did anyone see what they were replaced with?

Were the old toilets low-flow/flush?

Were the old toilets a contemporary style?

Are the new toilets ADA compliant?

Are the new toilets the same color as the old ones?

Replacing like-new fixtures solely because somebody else had used them seems silly and wasteful.

But there could easily be a different and valid reason to the new neighbors to make it worth the time and money.

Years ago, I bought a toilet seat and actually installed it. It replaced an old wooden one that was falling apart. The new one was plastic and once I sat on it, I said "Nope", removed it and packed it up and put it aside in its original box. Several years later, we were going to have a yard sale and I put it out. My wife said something to the effect of "You can't sell that. No one will buy it!

Well, I wouldn't, but someone did.

I replaced the original contemporary tank-at-bowl-height toilets in dad's place with Toto Drakes.

The originals used non-standard parts & never worked right.

Yup I replaced one out of three toilets in the new house with an ADA compliant/low flush/oval one and one additional seat with a soft close one. The third one I left as is. So, many legitimate reasons.

Another neighbor asked the new neighbor who told him he simply didn't care to use a used toilet.

That is really weird. What happens when he visits friends, or goes to a restaurant, or work, or on vacation?

They really do it. It doesn't happen as often as it should, because scientists are human and change is sometimes painful. But it happens every day. I cannot recall the last time something like that happened in politics or religion." (1987) -- Carl Sagan

I bought a used septic tank riser from Amazon and saved $20 or so. A toilet seat is simply once removed from the septic tank. I'd buy used!

Amazons “warehouse sales” have resulted in broken products with missing parts. I have stopped looking there.

If you never ever let anyone else sit on your toilet maybe it would be an issue, but like if you ever have guests what is the difference? Or never sit on a public toilet.

But to be honest, I broke my knee a few months ago and went to get one of those toilet seat booster seats and the lady there said she can check in the back if someone donated a used one and it would be free. I said no thanks...
