Our most difficult cancellation ever was AT&T DSL... after a dozen phone calls and online service requests, we gave up. We cancelled everything ATT, including the landline, and never looked back.

Tiffith argued that the rule will burden businesses "and restrict innovation without any corresponding benefit. And as the technology develops, these prescriptive requirements will constrain companies from being able to adapt their offerings to the needs of their customers."

oh, just STFU

I haven’t had cable tv in decades, but did have internet through Spectrum. When I switched to fiber with another company, I didn’t bother calling. I just showed up to one of their stores with the cable modem and said I was ending my service. They didn’t even ask why. They did send a guy to our house a few weeks later. He tried to argue that cable was just as good as fiber… yeah, that was an easy argument to destroy. They had 300Mbps, Fiber is 1Gbps. It’s also not shared with neighbors. Upload speed is also 1Gbps. He said “You’ll probably never notice the difference.” I told him my wife uploads stuff to her website all the time and has already noticed a big difference.

I had no problem cancelling ATT DSL, but since they screwed up mailing my last bill, they put my email account into a black hole that was impossible to recover or forward.

My mother had cable and internet through a cable company. When she passed, my brother brought the equipment back and supposedly took care of things. When the apartment she was in was leased out to the new tenant, he was unable to get service at that location as it was still registered to my mom. When I called, they insisted they had to speak to the owner of the account. I told them she had passed and invited them to go speak to her at the cemetery where she was interred. Then they told me that I would have to return the equipment; yep, the same stuff that was returned to them 6 weeks ago. I think I may have finally got through to them, but only time will tell.

had the same issue some years back. Since then, every return, Amzn, cable, shoes, whatever, gets GPS photo'd and/or receipts are scanned, dated and kept with whatever payment method was used. Annoying, but takes little time and effort.
I can't be bothered explaining to some minimum wage person they've bad info. They're just trying to get thru their day working for corporate maroons.
Just had this issue with Amzn. Sent them back their own info and that was that.
The corporate attitude is guilty until proven innocent.

I recently discovered my receipts from when I returned my Comcast equipment. I figured it was finally safe to toss them since we've had FiOS now for about three years.

This makes me mourn the loss of CableCard even the more so... not that the tech ever really took off.

Miss Manners says:

Whenever one returns service equipment to one's cable company, one must INSIST on getting a receipt documenting the items that were returned and the date on which they were returned.

It is what it is.
