Oakland is now officially off the visit list: Only In-N-Out to close
Posted by: C(-)ris

Oakland’s only In-N-Out will serve its last double-double on March 24 after more than 18 years in operation at 8300 Oakport Street, the burger restaurant’s chief operating officer Denny Warnick confirmed with SFGATE in an emailed statement Sunday.

Warnick described the store as “busy and profitable” for the company, and drive-thru lines during the dinner rush often stretched all the way out into neighboring parking lots. However, he cited “ongoing issues with crime” as the reason for the closure.

I finally went to an In-N-Out for the first time on my last trip to SD. I was not impressed.

Plus who wants to go eat when the sidewalks are littered with human feces?

Well, feces are one of an organism's most fundamental expressions of "in and out"...

I've been upset w/ the Oakland culinary scene ever since the Hof Brau at Broadway & Grand closed......

The glorious restaurant may be gone, but the iconic sign lives on at the Museum Of Neon Art....

I've eaten there. I've also eaten at the restaurant that replaced it Luka's Taproom. Luka's closed when it suffered a "sharp rent increase."

There's a pretty good Hof Brau in San Leandro called Harry's. But nothing of that ilk beats "Tommy's Joynt" in S.F. to me:

STATEMENT FROM IN-N-OUT REGARDING CLOSURE OF OAKLAND LOCATION

We have made the decision to close our In-N-Out Burger location in Oakland, California, due to ongoing issues with crime. Despite taking repeated steps to create safer conditions, our Customers and Associates are regularly victimized by car break-ins, property damage, theft, and armed robberies. Our last day of business in Oakland will be Sunday, March 24, 2024.

We are grateful for the local community, which has supported us for over 18 years, and we recognize that this closure negatively impacts our Associates and their families.

Additionally, this location remains a busy and profitable one for the company, but our top priority must be the safety and wellbeing of our Customers and Associates - we cannot ask them to visit or work in an unsafe environment.

All affected Associates will have the opportunity to transfer to a nearby In-N-Out location or, alternatively, receive a severance package. In-N-Out Burger has a history of supporting the Oakland community through charitable giving that predates the opening of our location there. Although we will no longer do business there, we will continue to support local charitable organizations in Oakland through our In-N-Out Burger Foundation and Slave 2 Nothing Foundation.

Which one is that?

I see Alameda.

Union City and San Leandro work for me.

I like Harry's, and SF is not worth the trip for me.

Just zip right through the Webster tube and look to the right on Willie Stargell ave. A literal few minutes. There's a Koja Kitchen that I love there. There's another one in Emeryville.

This is their Korean Barbecue Rice Bowl.

If you lined up all the CHIKIN's I've eaten, they would wrap around the world a couple two three times.

As Vision points out, the Alameda In-N-Out is closer to downtown Oakland than most of Oakland is. Also, there are many burger and BBQ places in Oakland that are vastly better than In-N-Out.

I bet that chopper is just spouting Fox News nonsense and has never been to Oakland.

"In science it often happens that scientists say, 'You know that's a really good argument; my position is mistaken,' and then they would actually change their minds and you never hear that old view from them again. They really do it. It doesn't happen as often as it should, because scientists are human and change is sometimes painful. But it happens every day. I cannot recall the last time something like that happened in politics or religion." (1987) -- Carl Sagan
