Scored Intel Mac Mini Refurb @ 5AM PST Today!

I knew there was a reason I stayed up all night past working on my current video project...it hit me about 3AM, it's T U E S D A Y!!smileys with beer

Happy Tuesday everybody! It's raining Refurbs over at the Apple Store online.

The Day that Apple always seems to restock their refurbs, and I missed out last week, clean forgot about it, but not this time, nossir...and there it was, a 1.66 GHz Intel Mac Mini/Combo Drive/BT/AE/Apple Remote/iLife '06 just waiting for me to run upstairs, grab my bag with the CC's in it, and find the appropriate plastic. Got free shipping, thumbs up smiley and I don't care how long it takes, it's free by gosh!grinning smiley

Maybe up to 5 days, they told me in the confirmation email...that's just fine with me.

$519.00 plus $37.63 CA. sales tax, and I'm in like Flynn for $556.63! Yeee Haaa!;)

I've got the still-brand new USB Apple keyboard/Mighty Mouse that came with my Dual Core G5, never used yet, and a nice 19" LCD display all ready for it, plus I've got 1GB of 667MHz Intel RAM just sitting here that I guess I can stuff the box with to boot and dispense with the 2 x 256MB chips that comes with it OEM. I haven't even checked to see if it's difficult to add RAM to the little bugger yet, I'm just too jazzed right now to bother!

Anyone who's been waiting for the refurbs to appear had best get on your High Horse and get thee to the Apple Store online, and pick yer bargains because they always seem to sell out by 9AM PST, at least of the good stuff.

They have a bevy of the 1.83GHz Core 2 Duo 17" iMacs/Combo Drive/iSight/ for $849 also, so those won't last long either. I was 1/2 tempted to go for one of those instead, but I stuck to my guns and got the Mini, which I've been waiting for weeks to appear again.

I hope you who're waiting for these great deals to happen get it in gear and score what you need while they still have them in stock. They'll be gone before you know it! B)

I feel fortunate that I got one of those brand NEW at Circuit City for $499 a few weeks back. It was some kind of weird sale.

Congrats on yours... fill 'er up with RAM and away you go!

minileader

doesnt amazon have a $25 rebate on minis?

that would make it $575 brand new?

and the mini takes SO-dimms (laptop ram) and they are much harder than the G4s to get into.

Sorry jdc, I don't buy Macs from Amazon.com....lots of other stuff, but not new Macs. I either score them from my Apple Store here in The Oaks Mall, the Apple Small Business Division CTO, or in the case of this Mini, wait for the refurb's to come around, and they eventually always do. I also have a nice working relationship with our area's only independent (surviving) Apple Service Provider, who I've known for some 16 years, and he, and only he, works on my Macs if something's amiss that I can't handle, or it's a warranty issue, an AppleCare issue.

I'm a believer in "recourse karma" and I think that you get that when you do business with Apple, an Apple Store, or an Apple Service Provider vs a 3rd party deal just to save sales tax, or perhaps to cut a better deal via an in-house rebate. After the last fiasco with the Haans-G $100 rebate that I went through, I quit with rebates unless they come from Apple, like the free HP Photosmart 3180 AIO that I got with my recent purchase of a "Refreshed" iMac from the Apple Store...I got that rebate check in less than 3 weeks time, and never doubted that it would come back fast since it was from Apple.

And the RAM install in an Intel Mini? It's no hill for a climber...if I can rebuild my iBook G3 600MHz, replacing the HD, optical drive, fan assembly, and give it a good "Spring Cleaning" so it looks brand new again inside and out, and works a lot better than when new, I think installing 2 DIMMs in an Intel Mini can be done without much fanfare.

Don't get me wrong because I do love Amazon.com, for virtually everything else but a new Mac. It's full of spectacular bargains on everything from books, DVD's, auto parts, camera accessories...you name it. To me it's like eBay without a bidding war.thumbs up

For Macs, I'm sticking with my Apple sources because they just work better for me than any 3rd party vendors, be it Amazon.com, Small Dog, whoever. I'm still smiling over my purchase of the "Refreshed" Intel iMac Core 2 Duo 4 weeks ago at the Apple Store:

[forums.macresource.com]

(my apologies for the lengthy story, but I had to share an amazing experience in total)

I want to keep my good karma with Apple going strong, which seems to have had a big turnaround ever since 2/2006, when Customer Relations replaced my disastrous Rev. A 1.8GHz DP G5 with this Dual Core 2.3GHz that I'm using right now. I know that Amazon.com works for many of you here for Mac purchases, but I'm sticking with Apple and its affiliates because it's been all good, and even lucky for me since this Apple karma has been guiding my way.

hey, you dont have to justify it to me (or yourself) about buying directly from apple

both of my dual G5s are apple refurbs, buddy just bought a MBP refurb on my suggestion, and we bought our MB right from the local apple store...

but all of those were great "deals"

Amazon is a Certified Apple reseller, a valued affiliate. Most around here that have done the Amazon rebate have gotten them back quickly.

Amazing! thumbs up

My Intel Mini Refurb has shipped!thumbs up smiley

Just got an email that it's been shipped FedEx Ground, and will arrive here by 5/03/2007, that's this Thursday...holy smokes, that's a fast deal. Bought at 5AM, and shipped by Noon the same day!

I am impressed...smiling bouncing smiley

I'm sorry jdc, I forgot how much you like the Refurb's also! In fact, you were my inspiration for looking at Refurb's in the 1st place, way back when even though I didn't get one then.

Mini - LEADER!

I bought Mavis the same 1.66 Mini refurb last September at our local Fashion Island, Newport Beach Apple store for $495.

Works great, especially if you max out the memory (OWC) and the Mini Stack with a big HD (also OWC).

She's luv'in it.
