Hanging Metal Sign On A Pole Barn - Double Sided Tape OK?

I want to avoid screws if possible. Any breakthrough double sided tape that is durable, waterproof, and will hold up to time? Once the sign is up, I probably would never move it. Sign is 18" x 24" aluminum and not really heavy.

I was considering contact cement, but tape would be a lot easier. Any other ways you could recommend?

I'd probably try velcro tape, especially if you could permanently fasten one side to the barn part. Or maybe what some call nano tape. I've successfully used it for small jobs. There's a ton of 'em out there. This is the one I ended up buying.

Magnets.

Gorilla double sided tape. It’s permanent and weatherproof. You can get it at Walmart or any big box. It’s been holding up our subdivision’s name in letters on brick for the last dozen years. Did I mention that it’s permanent?

I bought some wonderful small neodymium magnets on Amazon and they come with double sided tape - so you could make the signs magnetic. I just stuck a vintage metal sign to a metal door with one - I’m sold on these things.

Magnets.

Agreed, one strong magnet on each side of the sign. Or several if it’s corrugated. If you go with screws, get stainless and paint the threads with Rust-oleum just before driving them to protect the metal building.

3M VHB Tape is the way to go. It holds windows on Skyscrapers and panels on trailers. [www.3m.com]

Heh! I just put that one in my wishlist the other day. It seems too good to be true, though. Have you tried the nano tape in outside conditions?

Oh! Didn't think of them! I absolutely LOVE Gorilla Glue for my woodworking projects. I may go with this one!

Will look into it. Seems like a winner. Thanks.

About the magnets, This building is a business, and I'm afraid some idiot would walk away with it just because. Magnets would be a really simple solution, for sure.

I was going to say that I didn't remember, but I just now remembered that's what I used to fasten flexible vinyl tubing to our vinyl fence as little flag-holders. If I remember, I'll check dates and maybe snap a pic, but I do know it's been through some wide temperature ranges, and it's still holding up.

At least I think it is. Like I said, I'll have to check a little later.

Okay, here's the followup. I first asked here about ideas back in November of '21. Ombligo suggested nano tape and I thought it sounded like a good idea. I ordered the tape in June of '22 and finally got around to trying it on the fence a month or so later. Here it is February of '24 and as you can see in the picture, it's still holding up, filth and all.

My pleasure. Granted, the flags that pop in those tubes are little two-footers on about a 3/8" dowel so they're pretty light. And with the tape's surface area spanning two perpendicular sides, that helps I'm sure. Good luck!
