So far, I've had two three-ways in my life. Incredible experience! How about you?

Videochats!

It's been a blast. Nine MR members so far. Still looking for more…

The quality of my new iSight is amazing.

Meeting other forum members after years of knowing them only through posts has been a terrific experience.

Please, if you have iChat even if you don't have video, send me you Buddy name (specify .mac or AIM)

What's really incredible is a three-way!

I never thought I'd ever have a three waygrinning smiley

Oooooow. smiling smiley Now we know it's never too late!

Ya know, maybe one of these days I might set up mine. Don't be surprised if you hear from me, asking for help getting it set up. I've had iSight for almost exactly a year now and haven't had any desire to use it. Maybe it's time. Or not! I'd probably have to do my hair and put on makeup, so it might be more trouble than it's worth. sad smiley

AlphaDog, I was in the same boat. I bought my iSight months ago and it sat on the shelf above my desk.

I finally got up the energy and OPENED THE BOX!

After that it was working in three-four minutes.

Attaching the magnetic base to the camera took a tiny bit of figuring out because you have to make sure the cable lead faces the back of the monitor. Not rocket sciencegrinning smiley

After that, it took no time at all.

Stuck it on top of my Dell 2005 FPW (I wasn't sure it would stick but it did! Just not as strongly as to the Apple monitors, but good enough).

Ran the cable to my computer's FW port.

Clicked on iChat and there I was on my desktop, grinning at myself.

One tip: I downloaded a neat shareware app called "iGlasses." [www.macgears.com] This app gives you control of all the visuals of your iSight just like photoshop i.e. brightness, contrast, saturation, tint and lots more.

It's cheap and I feel, worthwhile.

So hook up your camera and send me your .mac or AIM Buddy name.

I'll look forward to "seeing" you online.

I think mine has iSight built in; I have an Intel iMac, and when I first turned it on there was this really scary looking person staring back at me. Eeeeeeeek! It was me! I guess the only thing I need to do is set up the .mac account, since BGnR says it's free. I can afford free. smiling smiley Just don't hold your breath, because this would be a major, major, major step for me, and I'm going to have to give this some serious thought.

Honestly, I felt the same way for ages.

Now, I'm so glad I got past my mental block.

I'm using the AIM account I set up several years ago.

It's a lot easier than you think.

Just open iChat.

Select preferences from the iCat drop down menu.

Select the Account Type drop down and then enter your name in the box that's followed by @mac.com if it's a .mac account or your AIM name if it's AOL IM.

Enter your password.

Once you have done these steps, go to the Buddies drop down menu and click add a buddy. Click the New Person button on the window that opens, choose AIM for the account type and type in geniusleff as the account name. You can put in GeneL in the First Name box so you know who I am and THAT"S IT!

You are done and ready to videochat.

Come on, just open iChat and see how easy it is. You don't even have to install anything.

As the Nike ads say, "JUST DO IT!"

So you find out buddy names by asking ... as in calling somebody or emailing them?

Do the kids who use this so much trade that information or is there some surreptitious way to find buddy names?

I know, I am completely out of touch with these new fangled gizmos. I admit it!

So far, I've requested and received Buddy names from a number of forum members.

Beyond that, I am doing my best to get my son on line with a webcam that I bought for him. Also, I've asked other family members to join in with their new iMacs and MacBook Pro, but they're newbies, so I'll have to go over to their places and show them what to do.

Being new at this, as well, I really don't know how else to add people.

Maybe someone can fill us in with more info?

I ought to add that you also have the ability to block Buddy List names you don't want to talk to again. You may find this useful if you use iChatters.com.

My feeling is that I'd like to keep it to forum members and family for now.

Forum members that I've shared posts with over the years feel like family in a way.

It's so cool to wake up and say hi! to a person in Orlando, (hi! chas_m) for instance, and think about how far and how close we all are.
