What program were you using, Mail, Gmail?
I agree to look in drafts
Also, if you haven’t emptied the trash, look there.

Nope! Looked in all the sites DeusxMac suggested and it's not there!

Nothing can be as maddening as losing a well-composed text you've spent time and effort on and then have it vanish. Curses!!!!

I recall many.many years ago using an ordinary search using Find on a unique term in the text and retrieving a lost document. But I don't remember the exact procedure or destination to address it to. Anyone??

I guess many of us have experienced the same sort of 'disaster' at some time or other which makes me wonder why no one has produced a piece of software to do just that kind of a retrieval.

Arrrgghh!!!! And thanks to all who have sent suggestions! Much appreciated!

In the Spotlight search, the magnifying glass at the top of the screen, type in recent and then open “recent” and it should show you the newest items that have been worked on.

this is a crazy idea, but it has been true in the past for me...

assuming that you were tying in Apple's Mail app...assuming you were typing text into a separate window.

Perhaps you hit something, clicked on something that caused the window you were typing on to move...move offscreen. I once was wondering 'what happened to that window?' on some app - might have been Mail... but whatever I was working on just vanished, but I knew I didn't close it.

Went up to the 'Window' menu and found that the window was THERE, but it was out of view. Finally gave up, quit and restarted the app and when I did, the lost window was nice and visible.

I was in a similar boat, once.

Changing the screen resolution brought it back into view.

I've often wished, right after losing long text I was writing, there there was a global Auto Save that could be configured for different apps that would allow a more robust Cmd-Z type option when such disaster struck.

Thanks to all of you for responding to my problem with very helpful possible solutions. The Mac brotherhood in action! I really appreciate all your efforts in helping me the last day or two.

I've just about given up the ghost on retrieving that lost email. Will remind me as it did today again, do a "SAVE" when typing up a long email!

I'll still try a few searches and see if I can come up with something, but am not very hopeful of changing the outcome.

My problem is that I'm still a "greenhorn", on a Mac despite how much I use it on a daily basis. That's a term we used to call "incompetent amateurs", or their facsimiles. Going back many, many years! LOL!

I've been a Mac user since 1995, but don't know much about the internal workings of the machine!!!! It's my third one, an iMac with the 27" monitor. I can navigate around the web well enough, but as for the internal workings, ,....

"Mucho gracias" to all for all your helpful and very welcome suggestions.

So you're sayin' that that yer mail app wasn't savin' as you drafted???

Then ya also oughta be lookin' into deeper software/hardware issues to figure out WTF is goin' on.....

Your Drafts should be a savin' fer ya, and if they ain't, ya oughta/gotta figure out why they ain't......
Create a new user acct and see if yer drafts autosave in it.
Try a webmail interface, if available, check for draft savin's.
Try a different mail program (or two), check for draft savin'.
Still ain't a savin' there, reinstall yer mail program/perhaps OS, too.

Buenas suertes.
