What Is This Thing?
Posted by: Rick-o

I was replacing the living room tv the other day and found this behind the stand on the floor. It kind of looks familiar, but I can't remember what it's for. The only writing on it said made in China, and a faint etching in the plastic showing the battery placement. Any ideas? dunno smiley

Mr. Lahey: A lot of people, don’t know how to drink. They drink against the grain of the liquor. And when you drink against the grain of the liquor? You lose.

You were not supposed to find that. The black vans will be rolling up to your location soon.

Number buttons on the back? Old tone dialer to use on rotary-dialer phones?

Is there no way to attach it to anything? It definitely looks familiar.

What it reminds me of is one of the very early "As Seen On TV" sonic keychain finders. "Lost your keys? Just press a button on the base unit and your key fob will emit a chirping noise", that kind of thing.

Close, but slightly different. In your pic, the device has buttons, and different holes. Plus, writing that my mystery item doesn't have. I didn't think of google lens. Thanks.

When Mrs. Buzz took the buyout after 43+ years of stewardessing, to
retire`during Covid, she had/has amassed an incredible collection of
pens that were stolen from all over the world. Six continents of hotels,
plus the occasional unsuspecting passenger ("borrowing" a pen from
one passenger so another passenger could sign for plane-bought food/drink).

Quite the collection of hotel logo'ed note pads, too......

Buzz is almost right. It prevents the 6th Dimension from entering your realm. Bow to it and Odin.

Nope. Nothing looks broken off. I should try to open it. It has a small screw that's almost jeweler screw size. I'll have to rustle up my small driver set and take a look inside.

Ok, I cracked it open. Here's the two batteries. Not much to see other than some corrosion.

It looks so familiar. I feel as if it is part of a microphone, like for a CB radio or something.

In all seriousness, I'd be looking for a name and/or model number. That almost always leads toward figuring out what a particular gadget is.

It appears to be literally that. The sonic pest control unit suggestion isn't ruled out yet. Out of idle curiosity, what is the tall silver component near the red wire on the circuit board? That might give us a clue.

It very well could be what you described. I think the silver thing is the buzzer. It literally says buzzer on the circuit board.

I had a different thought when I woke up today. Maybe it's the remnents of a cat toy? My crazy cat lady sister moved in a few years ago with many cats. Some of them have that murderous look to them. I wouldn't put it past one of them killing a toy with a buzzer thingie in it and hiding the evidence. eek2 smiley
