Don't worry about that.

There are no further OS updates for Mojave beyond 10.14.6.

QFE. 10.14.6 is the end of the road for 2012 Minis unless you go the OpenCore Hackintosh route. Don't do that.

I would uncheck that Automatically keep my Mac up to date bit.

Jerry,

It looks like the machine already has the current version of Mojave. The only thing you need to do is open the case and reseat the RAM to ensure it has the correct amount of RAM in it again.

I'd be intrigued to know what discs you actually see in the machine. The fusion drive wasn't made up of a single mechanism and was actually a low-capacity SSD and a 1TB platter drive. You've removed one of the drives. In theory, you can open disk utility and see which drives you actually have in the machine.

The Crucial will obviously be the main drive. The second drive will be one of the other drives. If you've removed the platter drive, you should have the 128GB SSD in it and available for you to use as storage. Me, I'd nuke and pave the 128GB SSD and turn it into an emergency boot drive.

Meaning, nuke it. Install a fully usable version of Mojave on it. Throw a Mojave installer on it. If you have it, install SMART Utility. Maybe even throw an app or two that you can use to keep working. That way, if something goes wrong with the Crucial, you still have a way to boot the machine and try to repair it.

Now that the platter drive is out of the Mini, drop it in the enclosure and see if you can turn it into a workable external drive. It might come in handy as a scratch drive. Or, use CCC to clone the Crucial to it.

When I got into the mini the 128GB SSD was on top of the patter drive. I opted to keep the platter drive in and connected to see if it would show up in Disk Utility after installing the drive you sent me. Well, when I fired it up and launched Disk Utility it only saw the drive you gave me - BUT I am going to open the mini back up because the SATA connector for the platter drive was loose and it may just need to be attached better. IF it still doesnt work, I am gonna take it out (which involves removing the logic board too UGH!) and see if I can install the 128GB SSD - if I find it's still good and use it as boot as you suggested. I also need to reseat the RAM. IF I get the platter drive out I'll put it in the enclosure and see if it can be fixed or if it's really completely dead.

I could sure use the space because when restoring my TM Backup it tells me there is not enough room on the drive you sent me....ARGH!!

I think he pulled the 128 SSD and left the 1 TB HD installed in the second bay.
If he doesn’t see it, it could be the cable is not plugged in properly or the drive is dead.
My guess is the drive is dead which cause the problem in the first place.

A TM restore doesn’t have to be an all or nothing proposition. Click on Go Back and deselect enough until it will restore. Then see what you can prune so you can get everything you need on the ssd vs the entire backup.

I'm proud of Jerry - I remember what it was like opening a mac for the first time. He's working through it and he will get to the finish line. Well done!
