dandruff, what's the best shampoo?

It's embarrassing, but I have terrible dandruff. Head and Shoulders isn't adequate. I need the big artillery. Recommendations?

Nizoral

Sometimes it is what it is...
and then there's times when it's really better.

T-Gel, Coal Tar at it's best!
H&S just fries out my scalp at makes it itch!
Nizoral is great for fungus.

Agree with BigGuynRusty - T-Gel with coal tar. Once or twice a week and I use Head & Shoulders every other day.

Selsun Blue has selenium sulfide that does work for tinnea versicolor.
I don't think I'd wash my hair with it, it stinks.

Head & Shoulders Intensive Treatment has the same ingredients as Selsun Blue, but it's orange. (selenium sulfide)

The best I've found to control mine, is to use Selsun Blue for the 1st course and follow it with generic Head & Shoulders (WalMart) for the 2nd course. So I get a dose of both each time I wash my hair (about every other night).

You did hear about the programmer that died in the shower? He just followed the directions on the bottle, wash, rinse, repeat. There was no <end> statement!

Seasonal or all-year round? I've found that for some months of the year it's not so great...other times, nothing!

Doctor prescribed: Ketoconazole 2% shampoo.

It's a generic for Nizoral shampoo.

Works great and is mild enough for daily use.

When I use it daily it's very effective.

You might get an Rx from your primary care doc, without having to go to a dermatologist.

Tea Tree Oil helped mine once. I mixed it with regular shampoo. It's very refeshing - hot and cold at the same time.

I've tried them all over several decades. Pentrax is best, for me anyway. But expensive and not that easy to find.

dermatologist told me once that, many times, dandruff is just dry scalp...not any sort of thing growing in there, so a good, separate, daily conditioner works. It did for me..

Grabbed some Nizoral but will keep this list bookmarked in case it doesn't do the trick. Thanks to everyone who posted info!

really? Well, i used conditioner and it went away. The Dr.'s point is that sometimes what people think is dandruff, actually is not. I went in asking about dandruff. she looked at my head and recommended a good conditioner. Worked like a charm..

thanks for the smart-ass comment...always a welcome addition to any discussion..
