Auto floor mats
Posted by: davemchine

I recently replaced my cloth seats for leather in my 2017 Toyota 4Runner. They are now a nice two tone brown leather with heat and cooling (Katzkin). Now it is time to upgrade the floor mats from the ugly, but functional, stock mats. Any recommendations?

How much did the seats, including install, set you back? 20 years ago I had faux leather seats installed in my new Jetta for $600. But yours are the real deal.

Davemachine,

Weathertech floor liners. I've tried others and once I installed liners from Weathertech, I've never considered an alternative. They just work and are the kind of accessory you install whether you have cloth or leather seats. Friends and family tried alternatives but eventually, they got rid of them in favor of Weathertech liners. I have them from the front, rear and cargo area of my car. They are pricey but worth the investment.

Weathertech has a newer version of the classic digital fit models but I've yet to give them a try. Hasn't been necessary. The digital fit set in my Mazda are still doing their job as well today as they did when I initially installed them in 2009. smiling smiley

Remember to Scotchguard the floor mats before installing.

Once again, I am here to sell people on the 3d MAXpider floor mats. I feel like they are far superior to WeatherTech and generally not as pricey. They are extremely weather resistant without that rubbery feel and smell. They look somewhat carbon fiber-ish and have a rough coating on the back that is extremely slip resistant.

When the dirt and mud gets to be too much, it's easy to lift the mats out and hose them down to almost new condition.

I've had these in a Crosstrek, a Bolt EV and now the Ioniq 5. We have snow season, mud season and now dirt season and they work equally well in each season.

Mark,

Their Perfect Fit models look like solid alternatives to their Weathertech equivalents. That and I like the carbon fiber look. Good to know there is another option out there!

I'm with the above and firmly in the "just get good mats" camp.

I have Weathertech in a Mazda....they fit great, click in/click out, after a winter you take them out and hose them off. (And a Mazda-branded rubber trunk mat in the trunk.)

I also have a set of rubber mats (front/rear) that look like a diamond plate pattern in an almost-30-year-old Grand Cherokee. I swear I got them from Orvis but don't have a way to prove it (and Orvis doesn't list anything currently like that on their website). Same deal - hose them off when they get dirty, but the key again is they're full coverage and have a lip/upturned edge so spills/dirt stay within the mat.

My experience is carpet-based floor mats inevitably pick up a stone/tar parking lot repaving mixture within 6 months of use.

I imagine for a 2017, WeatherTech will be fine. In my vehicle from this century, it is. In my vehicle from last century, the fitment leaves a lot to be desired (common complaint for that vehicle).

The 3d MAXpider floor mats look like a good option as well, but OMG, what a horrible web site! If I enter a vehicle, tell me what's available! Don't make me scroll over a bunch of pictures just to read the product name, then have to click on each one to get to the next page to find out if it's even available or not for my vehicle!!!

I prefer and have used Husky floor liners since 2001. They fit well, function well and they don't have that obnoxious labeling that you get with the Weathertecs.

I have these, in part because WeatherTech offers less rear seat coverage [www.tuxmat.com]

At least they'll have mats for davemchine (2 rows only), but wow, kind of a "limited" selection (they don't have mats for any of our vehicles).

Thumbs down on WeatherTech, their liners have always curled on me and others I know who have used them. I really don't have a recommendation unfortunately, but you may be surprised that the factory mats are occasionally on sale somewhere.

I am a HUGE fan of the heavy rubber 3D brand - order on Amazon.

I used weather tech for years - even know David McNeil on a peripheral basic, but now use the 3D mats in all my cars.

I never wanted Weathertech for my vehicles, so instead I bought and really like(d) the 3DMaxpider liners for an even better price. I had a set in my 2006 Forester and my 2012 Prius C. When I bought my '22 Kia Seltos in 2021, that was one of the first things I tried to buy. Ordered on 11/3/21 with an expected ship date of 12/9-12/17. Yikes. But okay. Over a series of three subsequent emails, I was notified of continued shipping date revisions. Yeah, it was during the pandemic, but when the date finally got pushed back to 2/2/23, I canceled the order and bought Smartliners direct from the manufacturer. While I don't like them quite as much as the 3DMaxpider, they're still pretty damn good.

For my Pacifica minivan, it was guessed around 1500 to 2000 to change out all the seats (three rows) for a lighter color. I decided to tolerate the black seats for now.

I hate how most cars are going to an all black internal color scheme.

Thanks. That’s a very good price for real leather!

I picked up these for my Bolt:[www.amazon.com]

They are just as good as the Weathertech liners I've had for other vehicles.

Husky X-Act fit. I’ve had Weathertech in previous vehicles. They were good but the Husky’s are better. They don’t get as slick when wet.

OMG, these folks have mats for everything (at least for our vehicles)! Even back to my '87 Van!!! This is the first company I've seen that has an exact fit option for this vehicle! Time to get rid of the "cut to fit" mats! Thanks!

Things sure have changed from when in my first car(s), I would go to the local carpet store and look for a piece of scrap carpet in a color close to what I was looking for and then take a utility knife to it to get it to 'custom fit' in my footwells. smiling smiley And I bet I'm not the only one who did that.

I necver though that fifty years later I'd be spending nearly $100 for perfectly cut custom fit mats.

I purchased WeatherTech knockoffs on eBay for 60.00 for the front and back, and they fit great.
