an ext FW drive

this:

is what my brother would like to get for ext storage, but it doesn't say 911 or anything about Oxford set, which I'd prefer he'd get so he doesn't have to learn the hard and $ way that I did.
Obviously the Maxtor drive is fine, but ....
Anyone know this company and if they use Oxford or not?
Can't find a home page for the enclosure maker.

Galaxy makes the Metal Gear boxes.
GMG INC
1300 Pioneer St, STE #B
Brea, CA 92821-3728
Direct line: (562) 691-3248
Facsimile: (562) 691-3896

[www.shop4tech.com] used to sell most of the same products as egoodz, and has a toll free ordering number. They do not seem to have a 160 GB model in stock at the moment.

The Metal Gear boxes are the best I've found so far. They get pretty hot (like all the Firewire/USB2 boxes) but are pretty well ventilated.

I have an A_power that works OK on the USB side but is junk on the Firewire connection.

I just bought the bare boxes and stuck a drive in them (one is 300 the other is 120).

So do the metal gear boxes have the Oxford chipset in them? I've looked quickly on their website, but no mention.

I do not think you can assume that it has an Oxford chipset.

old info and no response from the company yet. I suspect Prolific. That was the carp I had trouble with a couple years back. Think I'll have my brother wait for an Oxford alt.

i have that metal gear case, i could bend it with my bare hands

i can send you the pieces to mine if you really want one

OWC AL case with fw/USB 2 is a bit more $$, but mine never gets hot and i could stand on it without any issues -- and its 100% oxford chip

heres a pro/elite case for $60, add a 250 gig PATA drive for $60 (or 160 gigs for $40) and be done...

I have one of them cases by with a different badge on it. I don't like it as much as my this:

although the USB part never mounted. Still....
But in either case (NPI) he'd be better off with this combo.
I'll try the sales pitch again. sheesh
