Home medical stuff

Wife is slowly coming off a hip replacement. Currently looking into transportation replacement options (wheelchair to stairchair). These conditions should be somewhat temporary but short term rental quotes seem unreal.

What you are discovering: medical devices, like wheelchairs, are very, very expensive. Try Craigslist, Facebook, etc., even eBay.

My local elks lodge has a program where they take in and give out various medical things like crutches. Maybe check on your area.

Check with your city caregiving resource agencies. Ours was a tremendous help for us awhile back.Ditto on the bay and CL.

Also check local thrift stores, especially any associated with healthcare.

Are you looking for a stairchair?
If so, is that the lift that carries you up the stairs?
If you need a wheelchair, Medicare should cover the cost of a wheelchair, if you need that.
They will cover either a wheelchair or a walker, one time, I believe.
No idea how you get a better deal on the stair lift. I don’t know if Medicare covers any part of that, but I doubt it.

In our small town, we have a non-profit that loans out medical equipment, free. They get donations of everything from walkers to wheelchairs to hospital beds - make sure that they are in proper working condition and provide as a service to the community. You might check to see if something similar is available near you.

Yes, here the Shriners operate a wonderful resource that gives or lends donated equipment - you would not believe the variety they have. Super expensive items, even a portable oxygen concentrator! Or you can check with your senior center, as they usually know of places or have a stash themselves. You shouldn’t need to buy new.
