I have pretty interesting/amusing Ring footage, if anyone wants to see it... eye popping smiley

I had three living in our screened in porch.

Got a trap and relocated four of the three (pretty sure there were three. I think the fourth was just attracted to the apples in the trap).

Repaired the holes they made in the screen and vacuumed the "nest" that they made up in the soffits.

I also got a five pound container of Cayenne pepper, but have not deployed it yet. Putting some LED lighting up there as well, hoping it will be an added deterrent.

There are squirrel resistant feeders on the market. Resistant only, there is no proof. Look up "Squirrel Buster" for one product line.

Oh, I'm well aware of that. Part of the issue is that I'd prefer to be using a platform feeder, because I get more/different birds that way. Of course, that's also a buffet for the squirrels...

Birds don’t need to be fed in the spring, summer, fall, just the winter. That said I only throw out one handful of seed year round. Sometimes a squirrel will clean it up but mostly the birds eat it. The local cardinals have trained me or else they will stomp on the gutter edges making noise until I put something out.

The best way to help the birds? Maintain a birdbath. I have more birds come to that than the seed.

Just learn to enjoy the squirrels, they can be quite entertaining as you set up differing puzzles for them to solve.

I would, except for the fact that they're destructive: they destroyed one of my feeders AND started chewing on the wood of the porch support column that's next to the feeder (that is part of how they've gotten to the feeder).

I had good luck with one of those feeders that covers the feeding hole when the weight of a squirrel lowers the cover. Worked really well for me so I sent one to my brother in Iowa. Took HIS squirrels about a week to figure out how to defeat it. On MY feeder, the perches are starting to bend down so I suspect that squirrels have not given up trying.

Note that relocating wildlife is illegal in many states unless you’re licensed to do so. I’m not against it but just sharing.
