Sounds more like a technical discussion of the pitfalls that need to be overcome than an issue with solar. He kept going on about hard to maintain, install, etc. That isn't really a problem, it is a cost of doing business in that sector. Same thing with all the concerns he had about tying in and grid capacity. That is just a planning and implementation issue. So in short, the only problem is mismanagement, poor planning, and not looking at the cost/benefit ratio. The thing with the last one is that you have to consider not just the cost of them, but the environmental impact cost as well.

Summary for those who don't want to watch the video.

Ireland's ideally situated and has a climate that could propel it to be a wind powerhouse, but due to its transience and instantaneous variability wind has difficulty maintaining grid frequency. Additional infrastructure is needed to ensure that the grid frequency is maintained, and that extra cost is something that of course the grid operators / wind generators do not want to pay for if they can convince someone else to foot the cost on their behalf.

There's enough wind power to sell to mainland Europe - once a new undersea line is completed - in times of plenty or pull from France's nuclear plants on particularly calm days if needed. The wind power in Ireland and its location across shipping and air lanes could help decarbonize those economies via hydrogen.
